Book! Birmingham Royal Ballet’s The Nutcracker

A 90-minute live streamed performance of this enchanting festive tale by BRB's world-class dancers on Fri Dec 18 will sprinkle you with Christmas cheer - without leaving the house.

Fancy a night-in at the ballet?

After news of Birmingham’s Tier 3 status Birmingham Royal Ballet took the difficult decision to move a newly adapted 2020 version of their famous and much-loved family favourite The Nutcracker online.

If Christmas wouldn’t feel like Christmas without seeing this festive classic, Carlos Acosta and the REP’s Sean Foley have saved the day…

This Christmas production, with a reduced cast, will be streamed live from Birmingham Repertory Theatre on Fri Dec 18 at 7.30pm, so you’ll almost be able to feel like you’re at the ballet – wherever you are in the UK! Afterwards you can book on-demand pay-per-view tickets (by midnight December 21) to watch at home anytime before Christmas Eve.

Retaining all of the best bits from Clara’s Christmas Eve party and King Rat’s battle to the Kingdom of Sweets dances from around the world, the iconic Sugar Plum Fairy and, of course, The Nutcracker Prince, it will feature the cherished Tchaikovsky score performed live by the Royal Ballet Sinfonia conducted by Paul Murphy.

The cast includes Karla Doorbar as Clara, Drosselmeyer Jonathan Payn as Drosselmeyer, Momoko Hirata as The Sugar Plum Fairy and César Morales playing The Prince.

The 90-minute performance includes a short interval with exciting behind-the-scenes footage. Afterwards it will be available to view as a video-on-demand recording from Sat Dec 19 to Christmas Eve on Thurs Dec 24.

Video-on-demand sales close at midnight on Dec 21 – but The Nutcracker can be viewed until midnight on Christmas Eve. Tickets are £15 per device and you can book here: brb.org.uk/nutcracker-online.
