Muddy reviews Jen Adams’ Anti-Ageing Skin Rejuvenation Plan

How to look ten years younger in 12-weeks? Jen Adams, who runs a natural anti-ageing skin clinic in Leamington Spa, has a plan and Muddy was a very willing recipient!

Looking for more than a “fluff and buff” facial? Well, this is the one for you…complete with collagen shots, a Biologique Reserche FacialLotion P-50 and HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) non-surgical face lift. Warwickshire therapist Jen Adams has developed a natural 12-week non-surgical anti-ageing skin care plan, tailored for your specific needs and seriously results-driven! From day one your skin is galvanised, through purely natural anti-ageing treatments, to rev up its natural rejuvenation processes. The promised results – firmer, younger looking ‘dewy skin’ and a healthy glow.

The Location

Earlier this year Jen opened the doors to her new private clinic at 6a Park Street in the heart of Leamington Spa, amid glorious regency architecture, boutiques and cafes. She was previously based in Skintelligence a few doors away. Conveniently there are car parks nearby and the train station is approximately 15 minutes’ walk away.

The therapist

Self-confessed gym bunny Jen Adam is a youthful-looking therapist in her early 40s; frequently complimented on her ‘dewy’ complexion. Beginning her career in sports massage, Jen’s career has taken a turn into nutrition and natural beauty treatments. Down-to-earth and friendly, the Coventry-born skin guru’s overarching philosophy is that her clients don’t need to concern themselves with what’s wrong with their skin. She’s the one who has spent years studying and working in this field. If you’re not 100% happy with your skin – perhaps your routine isn’t working any more, you experience redness, or nothing seems to tackle the sag and wrinkles no matter how many products you buy – then she’ll work out what’s needed to do to turn your skin around.

Ever been enticed by the words ‘retinol’ and ‘collagen’ screaming out from beauty department store shelves – and wonder what exactly they do? Jen will also help to answer any questions you may have and de-myth the beauty industry. I’m taken by her in-depth understanding of skincare and nutrition. She’s clearly passionate about the Biologique Reserche products, their incredible efficacy and the brand’s high concentration (over 20% in most products) of pure botanical, marine and biological extracts.

The Vibe

Let’s be clear; this is not a spa. More airy Scandinavian loft than clinic, the top-floor room greets you with glorious high ceilings and wouldn’t look out of place in the pages of a Denmark’s top interior design mag. Not a squishy velvet sofa in sight. Instead, a lime green chaise lounge stands neatly atop a juxtaposed shaggy rug. Jen sits behind a long, thin, distressed wooden table flanked with benches. She invites me to choose either the other side of the table or the chaise under some very bright lighting. This illumination is necessary, as this is the consultation room. There’s a treatment room, a studio in which Jen records videos for her You Tube channel and kitchen area for future client events.

The Treatment

Jen has developed a “get started” 12-week Skin Rejuvenation Plan, during which new clients experience the full range of skin treatments and see the quick results. The focus of the plan is to train the skin to increase the rate of its natural rejuvenation – as it does when you’re younger.

Following a skin consult, the first treatment is a Biologique Reserche Facial for which Jen will mix a bespoke set of serums (her alchemy cupboard, stocked with dainty little glass bottles, is rather captivating). The facial is very relaxing – but you’ll sure know about it, with your tightened skin feeling it’s had a jolly good workout. It’s a 75-minute cleansing and exfoliating treatment which includes a Bio Magic Mask made with corn extract, wheat germ, plankton extract and white clay, that certainly feels like it’s working, followed by a soothing serum. As Jen’s a qualified sport masseur you get a really excellent face, shoulder and neck massage thrown in.

But Jen says it’s the following two treatments that really see the results. The second treatment is Micro Needling, to stimulate collagen and tighten the skin along with addressing all concerns such as dehydration, fine lines, wrinkles and acne scars.

The third is a non-surgical face lift, using High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU). Rather than scalpels and needles, HIFU uses ultrasound energy to stimulate collagen production in the deep layers of the skin – making it appear tighter, lifted and plump, particularly in the lower face, the neck area and above the brows. In the corner of the soothing treatment room stands the sleek, capable-looking HIFU machine, which Jen has named after George Clooney (“everyone loves George”).

Jen included a HIFU taster session into my treatment so I could see what it was like. Is it painful? Not at all. The probe-like device glided over my skin and the most I felt was a bit of warmth and faint tingling. After the 12-week plan, clients are invited to join the Skin Gym – regular facials and other treatments, along with special deals on products. Jen tailors the facial every time, as your skin needs will be a lot different if you’ve just returned from a fortnight in the Maldives vs a weekend in New York. Dehydration, sun, pollution, diet and hormones can affect how your skin looks and feels.

A key element of Jen’s skincare is her hero product Biologique Reserche Lotion P-50 – an enzymatic formula that breaks down cells to encourage regeneration, rather than removing them aggressively in the way other products do. Silky bottles of the wonderstuff balance on hexagonal wall hangings, ready to be purchased by clients (available under Jen’s prescription only). Importantly, Jen developed this skin care regime for herself initially. Her passion, along with the results on her own incredible skin, are striking. She says she wouldn’t use Botox or anything unnatural herself, so  wouldn’t suggest it for her clients either.

The Muddy Verdict:

After Step One of three treatments I was already feeling as if I looked 10-years younger and brave enough to roam town make-up free. The next day I could already see the results with my skin looking less tired and worn especially around the eyes. Colleagues commented how refreshed I looked. Needless to say, I was delighted with the results. I am looking forward to the next two stages and will report back on my facial rejuvenation…

You’ll probably notice your skin feeling a little tighter straight away, but real results kick in after 3 – 4 months, when the new collagen stimulated during the treatment reaches your skin’s surface. After this, you should see plumper, more taut skin with less sagging around the face, neck, eyes and jaw. These effects can last for around 12 months before you might feel you want to head back for a top-up “Skin Gym” session.

Who For?

The Skin Rejuvenation Plan is great for both men and women. Clients usually start visiting Jen from age 40 to mid 70s, but she stresses that it’s never too late. She’s had clients that have first come to see her long after their 60th birthday and enjoyed marvellous results.

The Cost:

The 3-Step Skin Rejuvenation Plan costs £675. Following this, your individual needs will be assessed and priced accordingly. The Skin Gym subscription is from £195 to £395 per month for a year. If you’re looking to invest your time and money wisely, for more immediate results, you can request a call-back from Jen for a free consult.
