This natural and organic skincare range aimed at teens won multiple awards at this year's Beauty Shortlist Awards, and with a new look we love it more than ever.
In the super-competitive world of beauty it can be difficult to stand out, but despite being less than three years old Skin Genius has caught our attention good and proper. This natural and organic skincare brand – is aimed at young skin – especially teenagers who suffer from acne and inflammation.
My tween is a big fan (see my 2016 review here), and she’s not the only one. At this year’s Beauty Shortlist Awards the brand won three gold awards: their face wash won best cleanser, the clarifying lotion won best product for acne and the moisturiser won best moisturiser. A couple of months later at the Free From Beauty Awards, the face wash was awarded bronze in the best face wash category. Those accolades speak loud and clear.
Skin Genius is the passion project of beautician Julia Vearncombe and her friend Hilery Dorrian who is a homeopath. The pair teamed up after they discovered that many of their clients had little idea about which products their children should be using on spotty skin, but knew for sure they wanted something without chemicals.
They decided to combine their expertise and create a natural skincare range that was not only safe for young skin, but that also worked. Skin Genius launched at the end of 2015, but last month ushered in some changes with a brand new website design and new packaging.
Doesn’t it look pretty – although I love that it’s not too girly which makes it a product teenage boys will also happily use. Although it’s what’s inside that really counts – and perhaps not coincidentally this is a message the brand is keen to push. With a tagline “be clear, be confident, be you”, Skin Genius wants to help young people – and grown-ups too – live happily and confidently in their own (spotless) skin. Aside from a regular cleansing routine with the Skin Genius products, there’s also a load of hints and tips about how to deal with acne on their website.
And getting back to what’s inside those pretty pump-dispensers. It’s a long ingredients list – all 100% natural and organic – including things like witch hazel, calendula, mallow, lemon tea tree, aloe vera, lavender. You won’t find parabens, sulfates, petroleum or any of those other nasties you’d really rather probably didn’t go anywhere near your skin.
Beautifully scented – that’s the lemon tea tree you can most likely smell – Skin Genius also about keeping things simple with just three products, the foaming face wash, leave-on purifying gel and the soothing moisturiser.
