<p>It might be home to international sporting venues Edgbaston Cricket Club and the historic Edgbaston Priory Club but there&#8217;s more to this part of Brum than its sporting heritage. It&#8217;s also home to some beautiful botanical gardens, multiple top-rated schools, Michelin-starred restaurants aplenty, two universities and is just a stone&#8217;s throw from the city centre.</p>

<p>Birmingham&#8217;s first ever Michelin star restaurant resides here &#8211; <a href="https://www.simpsonsrestaurant.co.uk">Simpsons</a>, which has held its accolade since 1999. For a more laid back affair there&#8217;s indie &#8216;community&#8217; hangout <a href="https://www.chapteredgbaston.co.uk">Chapter</a> which also serves up a pretty mean cocktail. And for Sunday roasts and classic dishes check out <a href="https://www.highfieldedgbaston.co.uk">The High Field</a>. Both have lovely outdoor terraces perfect for sunny days. For pizza and hearty Italian dishes you can&#8217;t go wrong with <a href="https://laghis.com">Laghi&#8217;s Deli</a> or if your fancying something with a bit of spice  there&#8217;s <a href="http://www.thebluepiano.co.uk">The Blue Piano</a> &#8211; where you can enjoy fusion food from Vietnam, Singapore, Cambodia and Malaysia usually to a soundtrack of live music. For Indian dishes there&#8217;s <a href="https://praza.co.uk">Praza</a>, or for pub grub <a href="https://www.brunningandprice.co.uk/physician/">The Physician</a>. Off the beaten track there&#8217;s golf club <a href="https://www.edgbastongc.co.uk/dining_at_edgbaston">Edgbaston Hall</a>. Pop about 5 mins down the road into central Brum and you&#8217;re in shopping heaven with <a href="https://www.bullring.co.uk">The Bullring</a> &#8211; hello John Lewis and Selfridges. </p>

<p>Sporty types are well covered here with <a href="https://edgbaston.com">Edgbaston Cricket Club</a> and <a href="https://www.edgbastonpriory.com">Edgbaston Priory Club </a>both based in the town and regularly hosting international tournaments in cricket and racquet sports respectively. There are the beautiful <a href="https://www.birminghambotanicalgardens.org.uk">Botanical Gardens</a> and glasshouses, set in 15 acres and perfect to while away a few hours. We also love <a href="https://www.winterbourne.org.uk">Winterbourne House and Gardens</a> – a beautiful Edwardian house and gardens &#8211; or community charity and gardens <a href="https://martineau-gardens.org.uk">Martineau Gardens</a>.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-culture">CULTURE</h2>



<p>Well worth a look is the is the <a href="https://barber.org.uk">Barber Institute of Fine Arts </a>which is home to some really interesting exhibitions. Pop over to the University of Birmingham and visit <a href="https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/facilities/lapworth-museum/index.aspx">The Lapworth Museum of Geology</a> too – it&#8217;s a hidden gem and you can easily while away a few hours exploring – or hear a concert in the <a href="https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/bramall/index.aspx">Bramall Music Building</a>. There&#8217;s also the <a href="https://macbirmingham.co.uk">Midlands Art Centre</a> with its exhibitions, workshops and performances. </p>

<p>There are several OFSTED outstanding schools near Edgbaston including <a href="http://www.chadvale.bham.sch.uk/">Chad Vale</a>, <a href="http://www.harborne.bham.sch.uk/">Harborne</a> and <a href="http://www.st-petersce.bham.sch.uk/">St Peter&#8217;s CofE</a>. <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-kept-secret">BEST KEPT SECRET</h2>



<p>Edgbaston is home to the oldest lawn tennis club in the world, founded in 1860 and known as Edgbaston Archery and Lawn Tennis Society. It was founded following a meeting at the Birmingham and Midland Institute and the club moved to its current premises next to the Botanical Gardens in 1867.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute">COMMUTE</h2>



<p>The nearest train station at Five Ways which has regular trains to the likes of Redditch, Bromsgrove and Lichfield, or University, with trains every 10 mins or so to Grand Central Birmingham, which will take you 7 mins to reach. Links from there are really good and it will soon also be serviced by high speed line HS2. If you&#8217;re driving the Hagley Road mainlines you to Birmingham and the M5 in 10 mins and you reach Birmingham airport in half an hour.</p>
