Transcendental Meditation (TM) in Stratford-upon-Avon & Birmingham

Muddy says: Looking for inner calm? TM is a simple, natural, effortless technique practised 20 mins twice a day. Fully accredited, qualified Warwickshire-based TM teacher Huw Meads runs local talks and courses.

Stella McCartney has given a personal account in The Times of how TM (Transcendental Meditation) has made an almost instantaneous difference to her ability to cope at difficult times in her life, including the loss of her mother Linda.

Amid a hectic schedule running a fashion empire and bringing up four pre-teenage children, TM is “a vital daily refuge”. We may not all live quite such high-powered lives, but more than 600 reliable scientific studies have begun to validate the health impacts of TM, on stress and anxiety. Interestingly Stella offers her staff a meditation programme at work, along with healthy vegan food. Other high-profile devotees include Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres, Hugh Jackman and Tom Hanks.

Huw Meads

Huw Meads, a Media Studies lecturer at Bournville College in Birmingham, is the Centre Chairperson at Stratford-upon-Avon TM Centre, which he runs with wife Linda. He first became a TM teacher in 1990 and teaches private and corporate courses, leads monthly meetings and offers one-2-one TM checking.

Step 1 is to come to a free introductory talk about Transcendental Meditation. This takes about an hour, and gives you a full overview of the technique and how it is learned.

Step 2 consists of four 90-minute sessions on consecutive days followed by regular one-to-one sessions with the teacher as well as periodic seminars over the first six months to ensure you are meditating correctly and enjoying the benefits. Courses are taught by qualified teachers who have spent at least six months on full-time training programmes designed and supervised by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, founder of Transcendental Meditation.

To make learning TM open to as many people as possible while covering costs, the fee for learning TM is income-related as explained here. Free introductory classes are held regularly in Birmingham and Stratford throughout the month at 7.30pm.
