Eat in: 12 best takeaway Sunday roasts and weekend boxes

Can't be faffed to juggle seven pots at once? Chill, just order in. Try one of these Coventry and Warwickshire Sunday roasts or exotic weekend boxes for a crackingly easy end to the week.

WARWICKSHIRE

The Butcher’s Social@Home, Henley-in-Arden

During lockdown you can not only order three & six course food boxes from the excellent gastropub in the heart of Henley-in-Arden, plus wines and hampers, but learn from Chef Mike Bullard in their popular Cook Along Live courses for adults. Next up is Mexican, on Feb 27 and kids classes every Tues with children’s mac n cheese, on Feb 23. You’ll need to get ahead of the crowd for their three-course Mother’s Day Sunday Roast Box ready for Sun March 14, which includes lobster & sweet corn soup, roast rump cap of beef, Yorkshire Pudding, goose fat roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, veg and sticky toffee pudding. £37 per person.

Aubrey’s at Home: free range meat boxes (nationwide)/ Aubrey’s and Oscar’s at Home, Leamington Spa

Brasserie Blanc Box

If you prefer to cook your own Sunday roast, you can order in one of nine top quality sustainable meat boxes delivered to your door (nationwide) from Raymond Blanc’s favourite butcher. Aubrey Allen has also teamed up with the chefs at Oscar’s French Steakhouse & Bistro in Leamington Spa to create a weekly collaborative 3 course dinner for £20 per person. This weekend, Sat Feb 20, choose from a smoked mackerel pate or ratatouille with feta tart to start, a fillet of beef stroganoff with saffron rice or wild mushroom stroganoff for mains. Dessert is chocolate and blood orange tart or Aubrey’s cheese selection and chutney.

The Woodsman at Home, Hotel Indigo, Stratford-upon-Avon

Need to spice up your life? Try the Woodsman’s exotic Middle Eastern Weekend menu for two, available to pick up this Sat (Feb 20). It starts with a tequila cocktail, moves swiftly onto Lahmacun – Turkish bread, venison mince, spiced yoghurt and pickles – followed by a fallow deer shish and dessert, a cardamom, lemon and black pepper quince yoghurt mousse, plus almond and cardamom cake. Farmers Fayre, Stoneleigh Park, nr Kenilworth

Take your pick of Sunday roasts from this family-run farm shop & restaurant matured rib of beef, a roast loin & belly pork to a mixed roast rib of beef & roast pork or a vegetarian butternut squash, quinoa & nut roast. They’re all great value at £12.95 and come with steamed seasonal veg, roast potatoes, roasted root vegetables, creamed potato, sage & onion stuffing, pigs in blankets, legendary Yorkshire puds and chef’s gravy. Kids roasts are available too for £5.95. Served in oven proof boxes hot roasts are ready to eat but can be reheated in the oven or microwave. Classic Sunday puds can be ordered separately.

Tailors at Home, Warwick

A Michelin Guide recommended restaurant owned and run by chefs Dan Cavell and Mark Fry highly regarded for its “elaborate dinners which feature unusual flavour combinations”. A six-course takeaway dinner is next available for collection on Fri Feb 26. Foodie highlights include cheddar cheese soda bread; Tailors mushroom quiche with truffle custard; a duck breast main with confit leg hash brown and roasted beets; Yorkshire rhubarb, almond & rose trifle followed by a selection of cheeses with homemade biscuits and salted caramel truffles.£48 per person.

Huntsman Carvery, Dunchurch, Rugby

This restaurant in the centre of historic Dunchurch village is renowned for its trad meaty carvery – and is open for takeaway collections every Sunday from 12-6.30pm. The weekly menu includes a full beef dinner, turkey dinner, ham dinner or a full house with everything. All come with crackling, mash, roasts, veg, gravy and stuffing.

Antona at Home, for delivery or collection from The Cross, Kenilworth

Two sister Michelin starred restaurants run this delivery service with easy-to- follow instructions from £45 per person. They offer different weekly set menus. The latest menu features leek and potato soup, confit duck leg and panettonemisu or you can opt for the vegetarian main – with an Old Winchester cheese dumpling with pickled onion main. There’s also their famous beef wellington set menu for two, £110, for a Sunday lunch treat. Online ordering closes at midday on Tues Feb 23 ready for delivery on Fri/Sat Feb 26/27 boxed in eco-friendly packaging. Delivery is £10 or if you live locally you can collect from The Cross at Kenilworth or Simpsons in Edgbaston, Birmingham. Choose your pickup slot at checkout.

The Bell Inn, Welford-upon-Avon

A 2021 Good Pub award-winner, this 17th century village inn is offering Fri, Sat and Sunday menus in lockdown. Choose between roast chicken with apricot & herb stuffing, roast rib of beef & a pot of horseradish, roast pork, apple sauce, crackling & stuffing or a nut roast and vegetarian gravy. All are £15.50 served with roast potatoes, parsnips, green vegetables, carrot & swede mash and Yorkshire pudding, plus young diners roasts are £8.95. Choose extra sides or one of three puds.

The Kitchen Farnborough, nr Gaydon

The roasts at The Kitchen Farnborough change every week. But, for £20 a person they always include the essentials: goose fat roast potatoes, seasonal roots & veggies, gravy, and a comfort food classic pudding. This week it’s roast beef, honey roast roots, rosemary roast potatoes, buttered greens, cauliflower cheese and proper gravy. Pud is chocolate bread & butter pudding with lashings of custard.

This gastro-pub company is serving weekend specials at four Warwickshire pubs with add on wines, or a cocktail of choice. A three-course Cornish Lamb Shank Box, £70 for two, or Vegetarian Wellington Box, £60 for two, can now be pre-ordered for Fri Feb 26. Delivered on Friday, 12.30pm-5pm the pre-prepared food can be enjoyed anytime over the weekend. Seasonal menus range from quality grass-fed Aubrey Allen beef, to wild game, free-range Cotswold chicken, Cornish lamb, native fish and veggie choices.

Pre-orders must be placed by 12 midnight on Sunday with delivery straight to your door, within 6 miles of the pub. If you live outside of this area, they offer click and collect from the pub Fri 4pm-6pm. 

33 The Scullery, Stratford-upon-Avon

Treat yourself to a hot Sunday roasts delivered to your door by this restaurant in the heart of town or collect for takeaway. Choices include roast sirloin of Hereford beef, roast turkey breast or a nut roast. Everything is locally produced with beef and turkey from Barry The Butcher served with roasted root vegetables from Hunscote Farm Shop and Nursery, cauliflower cheese, a selection of greens, roasties and pan gravy. Plus, there’s Yorkshire Pudding with the beef, sage & onion stuffing with pigs in blankets with the turkey and veggie onion gravy with the nut roast.

Roasted by Jack and Scott, nationwide

If you have a hankering for a roast dinner try one from Michelin-trained chefs Jack Blumenthal and Scott Perkins. They do 90% of the cooking, all you have to do is reheat (read the Muddy review here). The Sunday Roasts regularly sell out, and you have to order by 9pm on the Tuesday. Choose pork belly, beef or butternut Wellington, with roast potatoes, Yorkies and loads of veg. You can add more sides and puds are available too. Roasts £28.50. Nationwide delivery so we’ll forgive them living in Berkshire.
