The Distillery, Rugby

The newly-launched burger joint, craft beers and cocktail bar set up by two Rugby independents.

Clucking Delish

Two of Rugby Independents, have teamed up to launch The Distillery, formerly Style Bar. Thomas Adkins, of Delish Kitchen and Style Bar’s James Rai, opened their new gourmet burger, craft beers and cocktails venture last Friday, June 9 revealing a spanking new burger menu. The Distillery is inside a beautiful townhouse building with pared-back industrial style fixtures and fittings, spreading ‘Good Vibes Only’… (that’s what it says on the wall!).

I was sad to hear that the fab small independent cafe & eatery Delish Kitchen was going to close as it needed to move out of its Bank Street premises; but then really pleased that Delish was ‘getting together’ with Style Bar at 35 North Street. Rugby local Thomas took on Delish when he was only 25 in 2015, “a dream come true” and had only recently re-styled his cafe and updated the menu; while James is an experienced entrepreneur – running live music events and shaking & stirring up cocktails at Style Bar.

Food & drink

The new Delish Burgers menu offers a range of 6 gourmet burgers – Delish Classic (6oz steak), Clucking Delish (fried pulled chicken), You Swine (6oz steak & 12 hour pulled pork); Fat Cow (6oz steak burger & 15 hour beef brisket); Stacked Up (Fried Halloumi & houmous) and Happy Vegan (homemade Falafel & houmous). Rosemary skin-on fries included. Other sides include Dirty Fries, Nachos, Brisket Nachos, Slaw of the Day and Sweet Potato Fries. Burgers are handmade using only local beef, salt & pepper and cooked medium rare to order. There’s also a Kids burger & menu.

On opening night Mr Muddy and I popped in for some tea, Prosecco and beer (it had been a stressful week!) around 7pm. I can totally recommend the Halloumi and Houmous Stacked Up burger – it’s hard to get Halloumi just right, but it was, the rosemary fries were delicious too, complimented by a couple of glasses of fizz. Perfecto! Mr Muddy’s Clucking Delish was super crispy, just how he likes it apparently. ££ Burgers are £8.95, apart from the Fat Cow, £11.95. Fries & Slaw of the Day £2.50 and other sides £4.95 – £8.90.

There was a lovely chilled atmosphere, very personable, cheerful staff, lots of exposed brickwork, cool light-fittings, a really good soundtrack and best of all, great food/drink in the heart of the town centre. If you’re in the Rugby area it’s definitely worth checking out!

The Distillery, 35 North St, Rugby CV21 2AL,, open Wednesday – Saturday.
