13 last minute luxe local places to celebrate Mother’s Day
While we shouldn't need a particular date to treat Mum, this Sunday (yup - stop dragging your toes!) is always a good excuse to do something special.
We all know it’s the thought that counts, but not if that thought is a panic-stricken trip to the local supermarket’s petrol station for a wilting bunch of carnations (you know who you are). So, instead of earning yourself a place on the naughty step, treat the best woman in your life to something lovely this year.
We’re spoilt for choice with gorgeous places for a fancy afternoon tea on our patch. Why not book in for ‘the best Afternoon Tea in Warwickshire’ at Mallory Court in Leamington, served in the hotel’s award-winning Dining Room, or there’s Whittle’s at Audley Binswood which is holding a sparkling afternoon tea on Saturday and lunch on Sunday. Closer to Stratford, check out gorgeous Compton Verney where food is served in its beautiful Adam Hall, there’s a dedicated children’s menu too if you have little ones. If mum loves a bit of Buble head to Coombe Abbey where there’s an afternoon tea and tribute act, or if she prefers her stars to be Michelin then The Cross at Kenilworth has takeaway boxes with some delicious sounding additions including chocolate and almond petit gateau, raspberry trifle choux bun and coffee macarons.
In the West Mids check out Browns in Birmingham – it’s right by the Bullring (and just five minutes from the train station) – would be rude not to when it comes with a glass of Moet or a G&T. Alternatively we love Sky by the Water which has gorgeous views across the lake and a spa onsite too (why not really spoil mum with the Afternoon Tea Spa Experience).
What says I love and appreciate you more than cooking a delicious meal? Well if you’re like me and that would probably end in food poisoning, luckily we have a whole host of awesome places who will take the stress off your hands. We love the the RSC’s Rooftop Terrace with gorgeous views over Stratford-upon Avon, there’s a special two and three course Mother’s Day Sunday lunch including Prosecco on arrival, beef sirloin, free-range pork loin, seafood chowder and two vegan options. Also in the town 2 AA Rosette-winning The Arden Hotel which is offering a Sunday Lunch with a special gift for mums on the day. It’s a gorge hotel if you fancy making a night of it (check out our review here).
There’s the Fuzzy Duck at Armscote too which has a stand-out Sunday lunch menu sure to impress. Make sure you treat mum to a couple of their delicious cocktails too. Just down the road there’s Muddy fave the Chequers Inn at Ettington with cosy vibe, delicious lunch menu and wine list to boot. In Hunningham check out The Red Lion which has a menu catering to all tastes and some mouth-watering roasts (we love the British Striploin). If the sun’s out make sure you grab a glass of something fizzy and head outside afterwards to take in those gorgeous countryside views.
The Cock at Wishaw has a lovely Mother’s Day menu and has the perfect mix of great food and ambiance. There’s a lovely dining area but also some snug areas to chill out and catch up over a bottle (or two) after lunch.
