Top 100 gastropubs 2022 revealed

Hot off the presses! Estrella Damm has revealed its pick of the best gastropubs in the UK with two foodie favourites in Warwickshire and the West Mids making the list - but has your local cut the mustard?

Hankering after pan-fried trout/crispy pork belly/stick toffee pudding, washed down with some fabulous vintage from the perfectly selected wine list? Read on!

With the timing perfection of an expertly cooked fillet steak, along comes The Estrella Damm list of the country’s finest gastropubs, with one Warwickshire pub making the Top 50 and a West Midlands haunt in the Top 100 – and there’s a host of those from just over the border coming in hot too.

So here are the local winners. We’ll race you to the table.

The Cross, Kenilworth

The Cross is a Grade II listed 19th century inn which has kept its traditional heritage bringing in a mix of the contemporary. It was awarded its first Michelin star six years ago and has held onto it ever since, along with scooping 3 AA rosettes. It has three course set menus focusing on local and seasonal produce and competitively priced from £50 to £75. Owned by Andreas Antona and with chef Adam Bennett at the helm, it’s widely respected in the culinary world and earns a well-deserved place on the guide – an award that can be displayed next to its 2021 Muddy Award!

The Boat Inn, Lichfield

We’ve been banging on about this place for quite a while – and for good reason. The Boat has got a cosy but sophisticated vibe from an unassuming spot at the side of a busy A road, but head chef Liam Dillon has led it to a host of awards in recent years. His delicious yet eclectic menu includes braised oxtail agnolotti, Cornish seaweed broth, oyster emulsion & Lyonnaise onions or there’s the mouthwatering artichoke champ, roast scallop, sea leeks & bordelaise sauce. Judges call it a ‘belter of a venue’. We concur.

Fancy nipping over the border? Better make a reservation at one of these beauties…

The Olive Branch, Rutland

The Stag & Hounds, Leicestershire

The Duncombe Arms, Ashbourne

The Pack Horse, Hayfield

The Blind Bull, Buxton

The Meynell Ingram Arms, Burton-upon-Trent

The Bell Inn, Langford

The Beehive, White Waltham

The Loch & Tyne, Old Windsor

The Hind’s Head, Bray

The Baliwick Free House, Wick

The Miller of Mansfield, Reading
