Trainers so chic that only a fool would take them near a gym are everywhere this season - including some places you wouldn't expect. Guess where these beauties are from?

You know trainers have reached critical mass when even the genteel purveyor of ladies’ footwear LK Bennett is doing them. And haven’t they hit the jackpot with this new range? Chic enough to go with dresses and skirts, as well as your usual jeans, these are some seriously high-end sneakers. I wonder if the brand’s most famous customer, Kate Middleton, will be swapping her nude courts for a cheeky pair of these on her public engagements? It can only be a matter of time.

My pick of the bunch are the green/leopardprint/red ones. But if you prefer something more understated, these ones with a flash of silver/gold (£150) will hit the spot.

And LK Bennett are not the only high street brand doing surprisingly good trainers this season. Before you plump for the same old Converse or Nikes once again, take a look at these…

The ‘70s called, they want their trainers back. Well, they can’t have them – I’ve fallen for these pink/burgundy retro runners.

Their ankle boots and sandals have always been strong but Mint Velvet know their way around a pared-down, stylish trainer too. Bonus marks for the ultra-modern pink/red accents.

You probably associate Jigsaw with more formal wear but they have a great capsule collection of grown-up, soft leather trainers. If you’re – whisper it – bored of leopard-print, how about going snakey this season?
