They've been cooped up for so many months, prepare for the big release! Here's 22 cracking Easter holiday ideas in Coventry and Warwickshire from egg hunts to high ropes.


FILM: Drive-in The Luna Cinema

The new drive-in season at the Birmingham NEC kicks off on April 12 is the perfect night out for those eager to escape lockdown as soon as the government roadmap allows! Young film buffs are in for a treat as The Luna Cinema celebrates the anniversary releases of some cult classics including 25 years of Romeo + Juliet, 20 years of Legally Blonde, and 35 years of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, plus other classics like The Goonies, Grease, Back to the Future and Dirty Dancing. More recent releases include Disney’s Onward, Wonder Woman 1984, Rocketman, Joker and Knives Out.

NEC Birmingham will host a single screening each evening, seven nights a week, followed by The Luna Cinema’s traditional outdoor cinema late June. Other venues also opening will be Blenheim Palace, Knebworth House and Bluewater in Kent. Book here: The Luna Cinema

KIDS THEATRE ONLINE: Jabala and the Jinn, Belgrade Theatre, Coventry, (live online) Sat 27 Mar, Wed Mar 31–Sat April 24

Writer Asif Khan, an award-winning playwright and actor, is passionate about creating stories drawing on his own experience of growing up as a Muslim in Britain, for children aged five to eight years. The Belgrade’s newest children’s production is about a schoolgirl whose mum has died and her dad is struggling. Told through physical theatre, music and new writing, it will be livestreamed on Sat March 27 at 3pm, followed by a Q&A with Asif, director Rosamunde Hutt, the performers and creative team. A pre-recorded performance will then be available to stream on the Theatre’s website from Wed Mar 31 – Sat April 24. Tickets are £10,

KIDS THEATRE: Easter Car Park party: Horrible Histories: Barmy Britain & Billionaire Boy , Ricoh Arena, Coventry, Wed Apr 14

David Walliams’ Billionaire Boy and Horrible Histories UK will be touring UK car parks over Easter – in a joint enterprise by Birmingham Stage Company and Coalition Agency. Barmy Britain is set to be a gag-filled gallop through centuries of British history with two actors playing multiple historical roles including Queen Boudicca, King Henry VIII, Guy Fawkes, Dick Turpin and Queen Victoria. You can see it at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena on Wed Apr 14 (2pm & 5pm) and Birmingham NEC on Fri Apr 30 (4.30pm & 7pm). Billionaire Boy will be showing at Birmingham NEC on Sun April 25 (11am, 2pm & 5pm).

Easter Holiday Theatre Workshops, Playbox Theatre, Warwick

The Story of the Jaguar & The Old, Old World for 5-9-year-olds on Tues Apr 13 is set in the Amazon Rainforest and will delve young actors deep into challenges that face today’s world (£50 for members (£55 non-members) including lunch & refreshments) . The Phoenix Rises for 8-12-year-olds from Wed Apr 14-Thur Apr 15 looks towards the future as the world returns to life (£90 for members £95 for non-members) including lunch & refreshments.)


National Trust Easter Egg Hunts, Warwickshire

Family-friendly trails at beautiful heritage sites across the county. Children can run around complete their egg hunts and collect their chocolate egg prize afterwards. Tickets for visits need to be booked in advance, £3 per trail, card payment accepted. Here are the dates:

  • Coughton Court – join the trail around the front park from April 2-9, 11am-4pm
  • Packwood House – the hunt will be around their Welly Walk through woodland and fields runs from April 2-9, 9.30am-4pm
  • Baddesley Clinton – the trail will be around the gardens from April 2-9, 9.30am-4pm
  • Upton House – the trail will be around the gardens from April 1 – 18 April,10am – 5pm.
  • Charlecote Park – from Thur Apr 1 -Sun Apr 18, 9am-4pm every day. Dogs are welcome on a short lead.

Hill Close Gardens, Warwick

These hidden hedged Victorian gardens are a lovely family-friendly place to visit! See spring flowers galore in all their glory. Heritage daffodils, primroses, cowslips and other spring flowers are dotted around the 16 individual plots that make up these unique restored gardens. Open from 11am-4pm with toilets available and a nursery open for plant sales.

Easter Adventure Quest, Kenilworth Castle, Mon Mar 29-Sun Apr 18

Open from 10am-5pm, kids are invited to take part in a legendary quest this Easter holiday. Crack the clues and search for the dragon eggs as they explore the outdoor trail around the castle. Intrepid explorers who track down the hatched dragon will be rewarded with a chocolate treat and a certificate. £1.50 per child and this includes a handy pencil!

Avon Boating, Stratford-upon-Avon & Warwick Boat Hire, Warwick 

Ride a dragon up to to Warwick Castle! Boats including large swans, dragon pedalos, electric motor boats, traditional row boats, canoes and kayaks can be hired from March 30; while over in Stratford, Avon Boating is reopening on Fri April 12 boat hire and offering private cruises for up to six.

Compton Verney

Local families can explore some Art in the Park, the woodland playground, wellie, do some sketching or enjoy a lakeside picnic. 10am – 4pm, Tue – Sun. Adults £5. Children aged 0-18 years FREE. Need to book a time slot.

Warwickshire country parks

Great for walks, play and picnics. Burton Dassett Hills, Hartshill Hayes, Kingsbury Water Park, Pooley and Ryton Pools, along with the council-managed greenways in Stratford, Kenilworth and Offchurch are all open.


Easter Active Camps, Rugby School, Tue Apr 6-Fri Apr 9

A multi-activity holiday camp for three-14-year-olds offering a wide range of activities in one of the UK’s oldest independent schools. The school has an array of beautiful and historic buildings on-site as well as open grounds and dedicated sports fields, not to mention being the birthplace of the game of Rugby. The Bear Grylls Adventure

The Bear Grylls Adventure, near the NEC, Birmingham, High Ropes only reopen Apr 14

Already stuck for ways to keep the kids entertained this Easter holiday? After being sofa bound for months how about an adrenaline-packed day out? The dizzying heights of the Outdoor High Ropes aren’t for the faint-hearted. As Europe’s highest outdoor free roam ropes (the equivalent height of a five-storey building!) you’ll need to muster all your courage, balance and bravery to take on 36 obstacles designed to take you out of your comfort zone. Inspired by the Tarzan Military course, you’ll need guts of steel to beat this one. For ages 8+.

Go Ape Coventry, from March 29

Bookings are now being taken from Mon March 29 for a range of high rope antics in the fresh outdoors set in 500-acres of Coombe Country Park in Binley on the Coventry/Warwickshire border. There’s a Tarzan swing and 200m dual zip wires too.

Umberslade Adventure

The adventure park is re-opening in time for Easter from Fri Apr 4 with bookings being taken now for a range of woodland activities including the low ropes, commando course and nature trails.


Twycross Zoo, from April 12

Endangered Borneo orang utan mum Kibriah and baby Maliku at Twycross

This wildlife conservation charity on the Warwickshire/Leicestershire border is set to open from April 12. You’ll be able to see all the babies born in lockdown from the Borneo orang utan mums Kibriah and Maliku and their offspring plus 22 other animals born in the last year. It’s the only place in the UK home to the four great apes and also houses some of the world’s most endangered species, including Sumatran tigers, Eastern black rhino, and Amur leopards.

Hatton Adventure World, reopens Apr 12

This popular Warwickshire outdoor farm and play area is reopening just after Easter. From April 12 the rest of this rural shopping village and family-friendly farm park attraction will re-open, joining Alfresco Garden Boutique & Farm Shop, Warwickshire Cycles, Granite Transformations and Alfie’s Café which have remained open. Coo over the baby animals at Hatton Adventure World’s Spring Arrivals Marquee, plus enjoy outdoor funfair rides, shows and spring nature walks. Plus you can book blockbusters from April 13 including The Greatest Showman and Harry Potter at 6pm at the drive-in cinema & diner. The site is linked to Hatton Locks and Hatton Arms by a delightful 1.5mile circular country walk of about 1.5 miles across the private Hatton Estate and along the Grand Union Canal.

West Midlands Safari Park, from April 12

Guests will be able to see new Indian rhino mum Seto, and her first baby Inesh very soon at their home located in the safari drive-through when the park officially re-opens on Mon Apr 12. It will also be launching its highly anticipated Safari Lodges too. Tickets are now on sale.

Fairytale Farm, Southcombe, Chipping Norton

A hop across into neighbouring Oxfordshire this rural farm will be going down the rabbit hole for Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Meet Alice and watch her singing at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party in a new interactive Easter display, where Mother Goose has been joined by some new friends.


Coventry Foodbank’s Easter Egg Appeal

Coventry siblings Elias, age six, and Irah, aged four, are to cycle 100 kilometres throughout March while their mum Natasha Hindmarsh runs alongside. The pair want to raise enough money to donate 100 Easter Eggs to Coventry Foodbank. Their effort will be a part of Coventry Foodbank’s Easter appeal which encourages donations of Easter Eggs and chocolates to give to local families in crisis. The city has one of the biggest foodbanks in the UK.

Donations can be made to the Foodbank collection points in supermarkets across the city or The Halo Centre, Progress Way, Binley Industrial Estate, Coventry, CV3 2NT by March 22.

Henley Chocolates has a veritable nest of handmade vegan-friendly chocolate and bespoke Easter eggs – including white chocolate dinosaur eggs, unicorn, salted caramel and dark chocolate ginger. Cenu Cacao is the first ‘bean to bar’ chocolate shop locally, where chocolate’s handmade right in front of you.
