Review: Lucky Tails Alpaca Farm
Looking for pretty much a guaranteed good day out with the kids come rain or shine? Muddy Warwickshire’s Georgina took her two Mudlets to check out this cute farm nestled in the countryside.
Based on a small farm in the beautiful countryside near Atherstone, Lucky Tails is a one-stop charm-fest for animal loving-kids, with alpaca walks, donkey grooming, meerkat experiences, and more. It makes for a dreamy family trip: a hint of education and a hefty dose of cuteness, with the thrill of walking a fluffy alpaca (and posing for selfies), or meeting a teeny meerkat or ultimate fluffy bunny.
The farm is small and staff are really friendly and knowledgeable. It’s clear welfare is a priority. It’s an outdoorsy day – if it’s raining you need to pack your wellies and waterproof, and likewise for your suncream if the sun’s out – these guys are having fun whatever the weather.
There’s the Lucky Tails Coffee Shack onsite too, so once you’ve finished cuddling the residents you can grab a hot drink, locally made sausage roll, pastry or cake. There’s indoor and outdoor seating, though obvs you’re going to want to sit outdoors and coo over the animals (keeps the kids entertained too).
Me and the two Mudlets did meerkat, donkey and alpaca experiences and hands down could not pick a favourite as we loved all three. We learnt so much about the animals and got in lots of cuddles. Walks are at a leisurely pace and would be suitable for the littlest ones or taking granny and grandad. There’s a maximum of eight people in each group so you really get to spend time with each animal – weeks later the kids are still talking about donkey ‘Baby May’ who they absolutely fell in love with.
THE MUDDY VERDICT
Good for: A family day out and animal loving little ones. If you’re looking for a party the kids (and adults) will be talking about for months to come, this is your place too.
Not for: It’s a farm full of cute, fluffy critters, what’s not to love! If your kids are a bit wary of animals though maybe ease them in gently with the meerkat experience. Don’t plan on getting a meal here either, but the coffee shack is a great place to grab a snack.
The damage: Alpaca walks start at £7.50 with the full experience of meeting all three going up to £45, not bad for three hours of fun!
