Youth Summer Sailing courses, Draycote Water, Dunchurch, nr Rugby
Draycote Water Sailing Club offer all 4 stages of the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme (YSS) over a 3 or 5-day course running each week Monday to Friday of the holidays for 8-15-year-olds and do not need to be a member of the club to take part. There are also limited places on a 2-day Start Windsurfing course on the weekend of Aug 19-20.
Star Track Athletics Holiday Summer 2017 Courses, across Warwickshire
A British Athletics’ flagship grassroots athletics programme, aiming to give 8-15-year-olds real athletics experiences and help them to develop skills during school holidays. Over 5 days children and young people will learn about famous inventions claimed by other people and use these stories to create their own piece of theatre to perform in front of family and friends. A week of jam-packed drama activities, split into two groups for ages 8 – 11 and 11 – 16 exploring the theme of Hidden Histories through a series of fun and practical theatre workshops. RSC – One & Two-Day Animation Courses, Stratford
Want to create your own animated RSC Julius Caesar style gif? A 2-day animation course for 13-16-year-olds (£55) runs Thurs Aug 17-Fri Aug 18, 10am-4.30pm. There’s also one-day courses (£28) for 10-12-year-olds, Wed 9 Aug & Wed 16 Aug to create a digital flicker book filled with their own costume drawings inspired by the RSC’s costume store and archive photos. Spend the day drawing designs for your favourite Roman Shakespeare characters. Family and friends will be invited to join you at the end of the day to share your work. A 6-week animation club for mini animators aged 7+ who will produce short animation clips to later become a show reel. Workshops include Plastercine Character Animation, Filmmaking Animation and Cut Out Character Animation.
Make it Reel Summer Film School for 12-15-years, Warwick Arts Centre, Mon Jul 31-Fri Aug 4
5 days to make a 5-minute film and show it to friends and families. Films will be devised, storyboarded, scripted, rehearsed, shot, edited, sound tracked, mixed, mastered and premiered in the arts centre’s Cinema – all in a week! Led by local film makers Dom Breadmore and Jon Randle, £150.
Jungle Run Summer School for 7-11-years, Warwick Arts Centre, Mon Aug 7-Fri Aug 11
Fun and games at every turn led by Coventry’s Highly Sprung Performance Company – experts in imagination, play and physical performance. Imagine crash landing in the middle of a dense jungle with no map, no plan and only one mission: to get out in one piece! Party with the jungle monkeys and build your own jungle den. Throughout the week the adventure will unfold as you make choices about which path you take through this unknown environment. At the end of the week children will stage a thrilling performance, 10am – 4pm.

Wasps Summer Rugby Courses, Coventry
Aspiring rugby players (aged 13-18) can spend a week training like a pro player on this 5-day residential course, which also includes various Wasps merch to take home, the chance to meet the team’s players and two tickets to a Wasps game at the Ricoh Arena.
The Summer Zoo Club offers multiple wildlife and conservation activities for 8-14 year-olds until Sept 1 9am-4.30pm, wrap around care is also available 8.30am-5.30pm. Children can either drop in just for a day, or spend the week at the zoo. Zooniversity, aimed at 15-18 year olds, runs from Aug 21-25 and is perfect for any young adult interested in conservation, captive breeding and veterinary science.
Young Film Academy Summer Courses, London, throughout August
Budding movie mavens (actors and film-makers) can pick from various options which span making a film in a day to a fully immersive two week residential course (better get saving though – it’s £2388!). Just make them promise now that you’ll be their Oscars +1 in 2027.
