MICHELIN GUIDE

Cheals opened in Knowle a few months ago after moving to bigger premises from Henley. We’re here for its tried and tested method of fine dining without the pomp, serving up tasting menus and an a la carte offering. And head chef Matt Cheal must be doing something right, as he’s made it into the Michelin Guide which named it one of its 12 favourite new restaurants.

SAY HELLO TO…

Sushi, Wagyu steak, lobster… these are a few of my favourite things. Which thankfully I can get all at once at new Harborne Japanese restaurant Koi-Ki. There’s a great drinks and dining menu, and the interiors are on point, so you can grab some snaps for the ‘gram too (else it didn’t happen!)

Small plates lovers this ones for you. Tapas joint Bodega 19 has just opened on Greenhill Street in Stratford-upon-Avon. It’s all about Spanish flavours which can be enjoyed in true Mediterranean style, leisurely over a glass of something chilled. Bliss.

We’ve been waiting patiently (ok, since they won the Muddy Award for best cafe) for Forrest in Kenilworth to open up a second place, and lucky Cov is home to its next site. It’s in the new Arts & Humanities centre in the heart of Cov Uni’s campus so put your flask of instant brew down, this is a game changer.

Talking of new coffee shops, Mosaic Brew has opened its coffee cart on Warwick Street in the city. It’s a small team serving up grab and go drinks when you need a caffeine fix on the move – always then.

Been missing Bonds in Stratford since it closed down? Me too. But thankfully it’s now home to Hudsons Homes and Antiques. Think gorgeous homewares, interiors and antiques from dealers with all kinds of eclectic tastes. All that shopping is thirsty work, but don’t worry there’s a cafe too.

CELEBRATIONS

Passing Fancies in Digbeth is one of our favourite haunts here at Muddy. Delicious cocktails by guys who really know their stuff, with a menu changing on a weekly basis using the freshest ingredients from Brum market. If you’ve had the joy of having an expertly-made bevvy from bartender Matt you know he’s one of the best, and now it’s official after he scooped Bartender of the Year at the Diogeo GB. He’s heading to San Paolo to compete in the biggest cocktail competition in the world. Bottoms up!

Kenilworth institution The Cross is celebrating its 10th birthday this month. Throughout September some of the most delectable dishes are back on the tasting menu so get in quick as it’s booking up fast!
