<p>Between performances as Hermia and Quince in <em><a href="https://www.rsc.org.uk/a-midsummer-nights-dream/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">A Midsummer Night&#8217;s Dream</a></em><strong> (until Sun 30 Aug)</strong> at<a href="https://www.rsc.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> The RSC</a>, rising actress Scout Worsley takes a moment to chat all things culture with Muddy. From jazz-fuelled pre-show playlists and expert tips for getting the most out of a theatre trip to getting swept up in the tangled affairs and delicious drama of <em>Rivals</em>, Scout reveals the cultural picks she&#8217;s loving right now. </p>

<p>I grew up watching<em> Singing in the Rain</em>, but my taste is slightly different now<em>. Whiplash</em> had me in an absolute chokehold – the acting, the naturalism, the music&#8230; it’s incredibly powerful. The dedication of the actors, who had to learn their instruments for the film, is so inspiring. I also watched <em>Train Dreams</em> recently, which is a beautiful film. If a movie can make my own world vanish so I’m completely immersed in another, that’s the recipe for a great watch. And if I had to pick one to watch again and again? It would have to be <em>Waste Man.</em></p>

<p>As an avid script reader for most my life, I&#8217;m only now rediscovering my love of books. I’ve finally managed to peel myself away from the theatre world and I’m currently reading <em>Natives: Race and Class in the Ruins of Empire</em> by Akala. Books didn&#8217;t play a huge part in my upbringing, but if there were one book I’d love to act in an adaptation of, it would have to be <em>Little Women</em>. I&#8217;d love to play Amy March.</p>

<p>It varies – sometimes I’ll watch four theatre productions in a week, other times I won’t see any for a month. I try to get to Bristol Old Vic as much as I can, and whenever I’m in London, I’ll always catch something there. I recently saw <em>Party Season</em> by The Wardrobe Ensemble, <em>Summerfolk</em> at the National Theatre, and <em>Godot&#8217;s To-Do List </em>at the Royal Court Theatre. Shakeel Haakim, who played Godot, was magnetic &#8211; you couldn’t take your eyes off him. As an actress, I&#8217;d say getting to know a theatre can <em>really</em> enhance your experience. And if you&#8217;re looking for the best views in the house, aim for the centre and the middle rows (that&#8217;s <em>if</em> your budget stretches that far). </p>

<p>I’m currently watching <em>Widow’s Bay</em>, which is amazing. It completely immerses you in its world &#8211; you don&#8217;t want to leave. I love its naturalistic humour too. It&#8217;s not trying to be funny, but there are moments that just naturally make you laugh. I’ve got to say it though, my guilty please, <em>Rivals,</em> definitely lived up to the hype. The drama, the affairs&#8230; all of it. You end up wanting everyone to fall in love with everyone, so much so that you&#8217;re completely sucked into the delicious toxicity of it all. </p>

<p>I went to an incredible exhibition last year in Germany called<em> The Family of Migrants</em> at The Fenix, and that was breathtaking – I’ve never been so moved simply walking around an exhibition.</p>

<p>I dabble in podcasts. Some people find it super easy to stick one on and get on with their day – I&#8217;m definitely not one of those people. Saying that, I did see a live recording of <em>Off Menu with Ed Gamble and James Acaster</em>, and it was brilliant.</p>

<p>I like to dip my toes into every genre. One artist I could recommend every day is my friend ZENA (Zena Ahmed) – her voice gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. Beyond that, I love soulful, jazz-fuelled artists like Ezra Collective, The Silhouettes Project, Kokoroko and Erykah Badu. Lately, I’ve found myself revisiting Rizzle Kicks – <em>Down with the Trumpets</em> is a guilty pleasure. Closer to home, I’m a huge fan of Darius Zaltash and Holy Youth Movement. They’re incredible live, with such a high-energy, uplifting atmosphere that it&#8217;s impossible not to get swept up in it. Before any performance, though, I tend to lock in with jazz – especially Louis Armstrong. My dad always had jazz playing around the house when I was growing up, and I still have a playlist he made for me that always puts me in the right headspace.</p>
