Billesley Manor Hotel and Spa, Stratford-upon-Avon
This romantic 16th Century 4-star hotel had a £5.6m refurbishment during lockdown. Set in beautiful grounds, including a Victorian-era Topiary Garden and 11th-century church where it is thought Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway.
A stunningly refurbished 16th Century, luxe 4-star country house hotel in 11 acres of beautiful countryside with boutique features and spa minutes from Stratford-upon-Avon.
The £5.6m makeover has seen the hotel’s reception area, Great Hall, and Stuart Restaurant upgraded, as well as the hotel’s 71 bedrooms.
Now, the library has been renamed the ‘As You Like It Lounge’ with a ceiling of ‘floating’ books, in a nod to Shakespeare who is believed to have written the famous comedy there. The hotel’s famed floor-to-ceiling oak wood panelling has been enhanced with a colour palette of blues and golds.
Plush, velvet furniture has been added throughout the property with artwork by Pratiksha Tayal brings a contemporary twist to the traditional paintings and tapestries that previously adorned the walls. New grand chandeliers and open fireplaces have also been installed.
Steeped in history and charm it has a listed 100-year-old topiary garden shaped into chess pieces, fountain and an 11th century church where Shakespeare is believed to have married Anne Hathaway. A truly romantic setting for weddings, the hotel has four posters and the fabulous AA Rosette Stuart Restaurant serving modern British food made from delicious seasonal, local produce.
Other facilities include a Health & Leisure Club with a 25m indoor pool and outdoor tennis court.
It’s the perfect base to explore Shakespeare country. In July the hotel hosts an annual Stratford upon Avon Topiary Garden Gin Festival with Shakespeare Distillery.
