Macready Theatre, Rugby

This theatre in Rugby’s pretty town centre is bringing the West End to our doorstep, for world-class performances, comedy and dance – to name just a few.

Long gone are the days where we had to hop on a train to London to catch an awesome show. The Macready Theatre is making an awesome line-up available for all, without having to leave the town.

This 250-seat venue on Lawrence Sheriff Street is based in a pretty old Victorian building dating from 1885. It was previously built as classrooms for Rugby School but now has professional actors and creatives treading the boards.

There’s really something for everyone, with family performances, dancing nights (complete with gin tasting – is there any other way to do it?) and sold out shows like Morgan & West Unbelievable Science.

It also regularly hosts Jason Manford’s Comedy Club, which sees top comedians take to the stage for a laugh-a-minute show. It’s usually a sell-out, so bag your tickets quick if comedy’s your thing.

The theatre also organises The Festival on The Close at Rugby School, with names this year including Seann Walsh, Horrible Histories, A Night at the Musicals with the BBC Concert Orchestra and direct from their sell out tour in London, Flabbergast Theatre Company.

Among the awesome shows we love the fact it works so closely with the community, making sure a third of all its seating during term times is allocated for local schools. That’s what we call giving back!
