The Boathouse, Stratford-upon-Avon

Say hi to The Boathouse, which boasts some of the best views in Stratford, enjoyed with delicious food and drinks.

In a prime spot right on the River Avon sits independently owned bistro and bar The Boathouse. The working 18th Century boathouse takes in some of the best views of the Grade I listed Saxon Clopton Bridge across to the historic Tramway bridge and onto the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

But it’s not all about the scenery. The building has been lovingly refurbished using reclaimed wood and bespoke furniture, along with nods to its heritage. The piece-du-resistance is the huge riverside terrace but indoors it’s light and airy with windows aplenty and a massive zinc-topped bar – which is superbly well-stocked with everything from handpicked wines to craft beers and cocktails.

Menus are seasonal, with British and European influences using the best locally sourced ingredients. Popular fish specials change daily and the Sunday roasts are a huge hit too. The menu is a real people pleaser including everything from veggie and vegan dishes to meats sourced from local joint Barry the Butcher and bread from award-winning Mark’s Cotswold Bakery.

If you’re visiting between March and October we recommend leaving time to rent a boat from downstairs Avon Boating beforehand to really work up an appetite!
