The One Elm, Stratford-upon-Avon

Muddy says: A quirky, lively Victorian pub with an attractive courtyard, fab Sunday lunches and jovial atmosphere. A 5-minute walk from Stratford town centre.

The One Elm is a wonderful pub set in an imposing Victorian building at the top of Stratford’s Guild Street, a stone’s throw from the centre of town.

Though it’s just a couple of minutes from Shakespeare’s birthplace, the One Elm remains a locals’ pub serving locally brewed ales and home-cooked seasonal food in a pretty setting, rather than a Stratford tourist trap.  In fact it’s a bit of a hidden gem – its narrow frontage concealing a relaxed bar, a casual but first-rate eatery and a lovely courtyard.

Meet old friends or make new ones at the bar, or slip into the snug, with its log fire for a quieter pint of UBU from Purity, an award-winning real ale brewed just outside Stratford.

When you’re ready to eat, move through to the eatery that’s split over two floors – upstairs it’s dramatic with vintage lighting and photos of sixties hipsters on the walls, downstairs it’s cosier with rich red walls and booth seats to slide into.  You’ll find fantastic food and a great lively atmosphere in both.
