Book a romantic value-for-money boutique stay at his super-stylish period B&B in the centre of Stratford-upon-Avon from May 17 2021.

It has 11 individually designed comfy en-suite bedrooms. Each room varies in size and view to cover most budgets but all have freshly prepared English or continental breakfast in the morning, as standard, Feather & Black beds, Nespresso machine, luxe en-suite bathroom with Temple Spa toiletries and free wi-fi.

The Townhouse, run by manager, Neil Hanson, is right opposite Shakespeare’s Schoolroom and Guildhall with Stratford’s main shopping area, the RSC theatres and the River Avon all within a 5-minute walk.

Brakspear has enhanced and updated the interior style of this 400-year-old Grade II listed building, highlighting not only its many original features, but also giving a smart, pared-back revamp to its bright, airy bar and relaxed dining spaces. There are normally live piano performances by students from King Edward’s School nearby and a bespoke gin menu, plus a pre-theatre set menu from 12pm – 3pm & 5pm – 6.30pm.

Expect calming shades of sage green and white and collections of contemporary art and prints downstairs. Upstairs, the bedrooms are decorated in bold, dark shades with funky, geometric wallpapers by Cole & Son, soft, velvet curtains, giant onion glass lamps, painted vintage furnishings, Feather & Black beds and high pressure rain showers or rolltop baths.

Townhouse executive head chef, Antony Ely, has created a delicious, new menu of seasonal, rustic and flavourful British dishes made using the best locally sourced produce available. It’s popular, well-established, and enjoyable place to drink, dine and stay in this celebrated historic tourist town.

The Townhouse is a 15-minute walk from Stratford station and the journey time from London Marylebone is two hours. By car, Stratford is two hours drive from central London. Oxford and Cheltenham are a 40-minute drive away.
