<p>And they’re off! Spring has officially sprung (even if the weather hasn’t quite got the memo), and bluebells are bursting into life across Warks &amp; the West Mids. Ready for those magic, Instagram-worthy carpets of blue? Here’s where to find them — from gentle, soul-soothing strolls to leg-stretching hikes through some of the prettiest woodland in the region.</p>

<p>Ryton Wood is one of the jewels of the Princethorpe Woods —  85 hectares of ancient woodland, with parts dating back to the 11th century and designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest. With over 40 species of trees and shrubs (including some seriously impressive old oaks), it’s a dream for nature lovers. Come spring, the woodland floor is carpeted with primrose, wood anemone and yellow pimpernel, while the open glades burst into life with glorious bluebells. And in summer? Keep an eye out for the sweet scent of honeysuckle weaving through the trees.</p>

<p>Just ten miles from Birmingham, Lickey Hills Country Park spans around 500 acres — plenty of space for kids to run wild and burn off some energy. Come spring, it’s a total show-off, with swathes of bluebells carpeting the ground, alongside delicate wood sorrel, foxgloves, stitchwort and buttercups — a proper seasonal glow-up.</p>

<p>Tucked away near Rugby, Cawston Woods is the definition of a hidden gem. This privately owned ancient woodland was once under threat from development, but thanks to a 1,500-strong petition, it was saved from the bulldozers — and thank goodness for that. Now it’s a peaceful, dog-walker favourite, with winding paths, birdsong and some seriously dreamy blooms in spring. Think gentle wanders, dappled light and that lovely, off-the-radar feel that makes you want to keep it all to yourself (but we won&#8217;t).</p>

<p>Step into a slice of history at Burnthurst Wood, an ancient woodland dating back to the 15th century and a real haven for wildlife lovers. Expect tranquil, back-to-nature walks beneath leafy canopies, with glorious carpets of bluebells in spring stealing the show. On sunny days, keep your eyes peeled for butterflies like the white admiral and purple hairstreak, while birdspotters can tick off everything from warblers and woodpeckers to tawny owls — nearly 90 species have been recorded here. Park in the layby on Burnthurst Lane — and note, it’s a no-dogs zone, so best saved for a blissfully peaceful, paw-free wander.</p>

<p>Like neighbouring Baddesley Clinton and Packwood House, Coughton Court sits within the once vast Forest of Arden — and come bluebell season, it really shows off. For peak wow-factor, head to Timm’s Grove (late April to mid-May), where a gentle one-mile walk across open fields leads you into ancient woodland carpeted in a sea of sweetly scented bluebells. It’s proper storybook stuff. And once you’ve had your fill of floral glory, reward yourself with a pit stop at the Coughton Kitchen Café or the Stables Coffee Bar — because every good walk deserves a coffee (and maybe cake…).</p>

<p>You can wander for hours here without bumping into another soul — the ultimate off-grid escape. It’s perfect for letting the dogs run wild, and right now it’s looking particularly pretty, with blooms popping up all over the place. Just a little heads-up: if it’s been raining, it gets properly muddy — so wellies are less “nice to have” and more “non-negotiable.”</p>

<p>A beautiful woodland with mowed paths to walk on and trails with banks of bluebells. This&nbsp;116-acre plantation ancient woodland dates to the 16<sup>th</sup>&nbsp;century is very peaceful with two marked walking trails. There’s lots of wildlife to spot – 200 species were counted here by Warwickshire Wildlife Trust from minibeasts like wolf spider and red-tailed bumblebees to birds like the great spotted woodpecker and blackcap. Within the wood there’s Oakley Wood Camp – a scheduled ancient monument site believed to have been a Bronze Age or Iron Age fort.</p>

<p>Tucked away near Warwick, Hampton Wood and Meadow is a 12-hectare nature reserve that really comes into its own in spring. It’s famous for its primroses, which mingle beautifully with bluebells, wood anemone, stitchwort and lesser celandine — a proper wildflower dream. And it’s not just about the blooms: according to Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, more than 500 species of beetle have been recorded here, while dragonflies and damselflies dart through the air in the warmer months.</p>

<p>Managed by Warwickshire County Council, Hartshill Hayes Country Park is a 137-acre mix of woodland and open hilltop — and it really brings the drama. Climb a little and you’ll be rewarded with sweeping views across the Anker Valley, while down below, spring is doing its thing with bluebells starting to bloom in soft, dreamy swathes. It’s the kind of place that feels a bit “wow, this is on our doorstep?” — and well worth the leg stretch.</p>
