Birmingham Royal Ballet is holding the free world-premiere of its new production on Saturday (24 Aug) on the dance stage at Bullring and Grand Central (near M&amp;S). <a href="http://www.birminghamhippodrome.com/">Fortis</a> is set to music by award-winning composer Zoe Keating and honours suffragette women who learnt jiu-jitsu as a means of self defence against police brutality and abuse. It&#8217;s a mix of ballet, neo-classical and contemporary dance with jiu-jitsu inspired movement, and you know if someone&#8217;s going to fill that brief its BRB!

<a href="https://www.birminghamhippodrome.com/calendar/hamilton/">Hamilton</a>&nbsp;is still on in Brum until&nbsp;31 Aug&nbsp;and is definitely worth a watch if you haven’t seen it before (my review&nbsp;<a href="https://warks.muddystilettos.co.uk/things-to-do/arts-culture-things-to-do/review-hamilton-birmingham-hippodrome/">here</a>). Elsewhere in the city there’s&nbsp;<a href="https://www.atgtickets.com/shows/pretty-woman-the-musical/the-alexandra-theatre-birmingham/">Pretty Woman</a>&nbsp;at the Alexandra from&nbsp;20-24 Aug&nbsp;and over at the Wolverhampton Grand check out&nbsp;<a href="https://www.grandtheatre.co.uk/whats-on/101-dalmatians/">101 Dalmatians</a>&nbsp;from&nbsp;20-24 Aug.



The RSC never fails us, and we’ve got heaps to choose from over the bank hol, starting with&nbsp;<a href="https://www.rsc.org.uk/the-school-for-scandal">The School for Scandal</a>&nbsp;until&nbsp;6 Sept&nbsp;– expect big gowns, even bigger wigs and heaps of period flair. For more comedy there’s&nbsp;<a href="https://www.rsc.org.uk/the-merry-wives-of-windsor">The Merry Wives of Windsor</a>&nbsp;until&nbsp;7 Sept, with girl power aplenty.&nbsp;<a href="https://warks.muddystilettos.co.uk/things-to-do/arts-culture-things-to-do/the-merry-wives-of-windsor-review/">Here’s</a>&nbsp;my review.&nbsp;And if you like your theatre alfresco check out&nbsp;<a href="https://www.rsc.org.uk/as-you-like-it/">As You Like It</a>&nbsp;in the RSC’s Holloway Garden Theatre before&nbsp;1 Sept.



How does a night enjoying classical music alfresco by candlelight sound? Perfect date night, right? National Trust&#8217;s Coughton Court in Alcester will see a string trio from <a href="https://lumoslive.co.uk/listing/sunset-candlelight-experience-in-warwickshire🕯%EF%B8%8Fcoldplay-hans-zimmer-taylor-swift🎶/">Lumos Live</a> play music from Hans Zimmer, Taylor Swift and Coldplay surrounded thousands of LED candles on Saturday (24 Aug). There&#8217;s food trucks and a bar too, so all you need to bring is a picnic blanket and some camping chairs.

If you&#8217;re heading to Brum on Monday then make sure you pop into The Bullring at 1pm or 3pm for a free, live performance by the <a href="https://cbso.co.uk/events/cbso-at-the-bullring">City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra</a>. They&#8217;ll be performing music from Jurassic Park, Star Wars and even some Beethoven. Perfect shopping break.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-family-fun">FAMILY FUN</h2>



If you&#8217;re a family of dog lovers then you (and the pooch) are going to want to head to <a href="https://editiondoglive.com">Edition Dog Live</a> at the NAEC Stoneleigh on 25 Aug. There&#8217;s everything from live performances, stalls, a dog show, talks and even a bloody dog picnic! SOLD!

If they&#8217;re more into dragons then dogs then head to St Mary&#8217;s Guildhall on Monday (26 Aug) for a lesson on how to be a <a href="https://www.stmarysguildhall.co.uk/whats-on-guildhall/">dragon tamer</a> (what an addition to the CV!). It&#8217;s a one-hour experience throughout the rooms of the guildhall, and some of the sessions are already fully booked, so get in quick!



Over in Alcester at Ragley Hall there’s <a href="http://www.campercalling.com/">Camper Calling</a> from 23-25 Aug. There’s music from the likes of Travis, Jessie J and Groove Armada. Make sure you check out the Mindfulness Field for all things zen. For more music check out <a href="https://www.facebook.com/henleymusicfest/">Henley Music Festival</a> from 23-26 Aug with loads of awesome live music. If you need some sustenance then Glynn Purnell&#8217;s pub The Mount is serving up a hog roast or pulled jackfruit, and there&#8217;s a bouncy castle for the kids too. 



Over in Brum there’s heaps on during the Birmingham Weekender from&nbsp;23-26 Aug. Make sure you leave time to head to the beautiful and super family-friendly <a href="https://www.benugo.com/sites/restaurants/benugo-bar-kitchen-at-warwick-arts-centre/">Benugo Bar &amp; Kitchen</a> where there’s board games, toys and colouring, kids eat for £1 during the summer hols too. There’s pizzas (obvs), dough balls, pastas, and puds.

Shipston-on-Stour pub The Cherington is hosting <a href="https://www.thecherington.co.uk">Cherry Fest</a> from 23-25 Aug, with live music, family fun day and quizzes galore. There&#8217;ll also be an outdoor bar and along with eating in the pub there&#8217;s a bbq. Over in Alcester at Muddy Award-winning <a href="http://www.brunningandprice.co.uk/arrowmill">Arrow Mill</a> there&#8217;s a family fun day on Monday (26 Aug) with outdoor food, drinks, live music and games to keep the kids entertained. 



At <a href="https://www.thegeorgeatkilsby.co.uk">The George at Kilsby</a> there&#8217;s a live music and steak night tonight (Friday) so book in stat. If you&#8217;re more about the surf than the turf it&#8217;s one of the last chances to try the native lobster special at <a href="https://www.thewhitelionradfordsemele.co.uk/whats-on-in-leamington-spa/">The White Lion</a> in Radford Semele. Over in Kings Heath the Grace and Savour team are taking over wine and small plates bar <a href="https://graceandjames.xyz">Grace and James</a> serving up delicious-sounding plates alongside English wines. It&#8217;s a great way to try Grace and Savour&#8217;s food outside of Hampton Manor, and walk ins are available. See you there!
