Entries for Muddy’s Lockdown Gardens in Bloom have closed, the Top 10 images from each category have been selected and the judges (BBC gardener Toby Buckland, author of The Five Minute Garden Laetitia Maklouf  and Muddy’s Ed-in-Chief Hero Brown) are deliberating to decide who’ll receive a portion of the £1000 Olive & Sage prize.

Meanwhile, we’ve scoured through your photographs (over 1000 of you entered which was amazing!) to cherry-pick our four favourite garden trends to emerge from your lockdown handiwork. Shall we take a look?

Mediterranean summer

Can’t go to the Med? Bring the holiday vibes to your back garden instead! Patterned tiles were all over our Instagram feed – they instantly add interest to a patio and can be a neat way to zone your space. For a larger print, like the one above, we love this dark grey and white option, or for something a little less extrovert, go for a smaller geometric print like this one with pretty blue accents. If you don’t fancy forking out (or love a project), try using a stencil to create your own tiles – Etsy have lots of options at under £10.

Inside comes outside

Hotter climes over lockdown (and the need to escape our own four walls) has meant outdoor living has increased in popularity. A mirror is an easy way to create that feel of blended living areas and can really transform a garden, reflecting light into shadier spots and creating the illusion of a bigger space. On our wish list is this aged arched mirror from Olive & Sage and this huge industrial chic option from Cox & Cox (just watch you don’t walk into it, thinking it’s a door!).

Next gen cooking

With pubs and restaurants closed over lockdown, ‘eating out’ has adopted a whole new meaning – cooking and dining in the garden has become a massive trend, particularly on the pizza front. There are loads of brilliant options available for rustling up doughy artisan pizzas at home but we’re coveting Gozney’s Roccbox, £399, (the brand supplies Franco Manca and Pizza Pilgrims, so you’re in good hands). For a more budget-friendly option at under £230, go for this sleek design from Ooni – hot in 15 minutes, it cooks the goods in 60 seconds.

Minimalism

Lovers of low maintenance gardens, rejoice! Grass is out and gravel is in. Minimalist gardening is all about keeping the lines clean, simple and maximising your space with landscaping materials – a great option if you have a smaller space to work with. Add angular raised beds or planters to complete the look – we love this simple wooden Homebase option, these grey ones from Habitat and this chic metal one from La Redoute.
