Sisters are doin’ it for themselves!

Our drinks, networking and theatre night for women in business together with the RSC and The Arden Hotel in Stratford-upon-Avon went off with a bang! Here's the lowdown.

We came, we saw, we chin-wagged. And we enjoyed a few cocktails along the way, naturally. A massive THANK YOU to all you Muddy readers who came along to our drinks, networking and theatre event for women in business at The Arden Hotel, Stratford-upon-Avon on Thurs Feb 6, in collaboration with the Royal Shakespeare Company and The Arden. We were thrilled to see such a great turnout of glam, lively, chatty Muddy readers, and I think everyone was pretty much blown away by a performance of The Whip in the Swan Theatre, afterwards – just across the road. You can read our review here.

We were treated to talks by the play’s fantastic writer Juliet Gilkes Romero and director Kimberley Sykes, (pictured below).

No spoilers, but it’s a definite must-see, a period drama set about scandal of the multi-billion pound bailout given to British colonial slave owners, and the women at the forefront of the anti-slavery movement.

The Arden Hotel, Stratford

Everyone received a goody bag with their programme, ticket and some treats made or donated by Warwickshire women running indie businesses. A big Muddy shout-out to fab local businesses who helped out – Twinings Home Fragrance for the gorgeous soy candles, Blue Basil Brownies in Leamington Spa for the delicious homemade chocolate brownies and Bumbles Coffee Shop in Studley for the hot drinks vouchers.

The Arden expertly hosted our pre-theatre drinks –  devilishly tempting cocktails including a Mulberry Gin, and Prosecco cocktail – if you’re asking -and a non alcoholic rhubarb gin sour, as well as moreish canapes. A number of us heroically opted for Seedlip’s delicious non-alcoholic G&T’s as driving – how nice are they! Worth noting the hotel has an enticing dining offer of a free bottle of house wine between two when ordering two courses from any menu or three ‘shareables’ through to March (Sun-Fri, except Valentine’s Day) and serves a stunning afternoon tea (£22.95), including one for children – a special treat for half-term, perhaps!

The Whip is on at the Swan Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon for a relatively short run until March 21 – so you’ll need to book soon!
