Here&#8217;s a sneak peak of Birmingham&#8217;s spectacular Over the Moon lantern installation. Designed with social distancing in mind, it looks like a fun family evening out and will be live until November 15.



Set among Chinese Quarter restaurants, these 26 giant lanterns gracing the iconic Arcadian, all handcrafted by the Liverpool-based team who created lanterns for the Lumiere Festival, have more than 5,000 LED lights.

This thrilling illumination display tells the story of Fei Fei and her trusty partner Bungee the Rabbit travelling to the Moon to find&nbsp;Chang’e, the Moon Goddess whose legendary tale gave birth to the mid-autumn festival.

Other cartoon characters portrayed in the installation include the Moon Frogs and 20+ Lunarian creatures orbiting the giant moon sphere which bears the images of Chang’e, Fei Fei and Bungee, along with a travelling rocket bike that can be viewed at ground level.

This new children&#8217;s animation on Netflix is a celebration of the Chinese folklore which inspired the mid-autumn festival. Each Over the Moon lantern honours celebrations around the October festival and embracing the magical folklore traditionally celebrated with lanterns and mooncakes. 



All lanterns were expertly made by Liverpool’s Lantern Company, with more than 30 people in five locations working on each of them in a safe socially distanced manner.&nbsp;



This immersive family-friendly light experience has been created in a way to be enjoyed outdoors in a socially distanced manner and in accordance with current Governmental guidelines &#8211; and judging by people&#8217;s faces certainly looks impressive.

Local businesses within the Birmingham Chinese Quarter will be supporting the installation with various themed initiatives on offer throughout of October and November including Caffe Di Milano, Chung Ying Cantonese Restaurant, Ming Moon Chinese Restaurant and Karaoke Bar and Cafe Chino.



A second Over the Moon illumination celebration is also taking place in London -Gerrard St and Newport Place until Nov 15.
