<p>Plenty of lovely independents here, with our favourite being <a href="https://www.facebook.com/theheathbookshop/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Heath Bookshop</a> for its varied selection and brilliant author events. It was named the&nbsp;2025 Independent Bookshop of the Year&nbsp;at the British Book Awards – the first ever bookshop in Birmingham to take the national title. There&#8217;s a fab children&#8217;s bookshop here too,<strong> </strong><a href="https://howbraveisthewren.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">How Brave is the Wren</a>. Another Muddy fave is <a href="https://harvestskincare.co" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Harvest</a> skincare, which focuses on natural, hard-working ingredients. It recently opened a <a href="https://harvestskincare.co/pages/harvest-home" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">homeware</a> store just up the road too where there&#8217;s a treatment room and creative workshops.</p>



<p>If it&#8217;s plants you&#8217;re after then make a visit to <a href="https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100090048972094" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Root 13</a> which has some of the prettiest around. All your gifting needs are sorted at <a href="https://www.enkionline.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Enki</a>, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/TopBananaVintageClothing/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Top Banana</a> is a gem for vintage clothing from the USA and pay a visit to <a href="https://www.instagram.com/thepolarbearkingsheath/?hl=en-gb" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Polar Bear Records</a> for vinyl and CDs. Fresh, mainly local produce is available at the popular <a href="https://www.instagram.com/kingsheathfmkt/?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">farmers&#8217; market</a> held in the Village Square on the first Saturday of each month and an <a href="https://www.birminghamartisanmarkets.com/events/kings-heath-artisan-market" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">artisan market</a> on the second Sunday of each month. </p>

<p>For everything from acupuncture to counselling there’s&nbsp;<a href="https://www.thewellhealthcentre.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Well Health Centre</a> and if it’s yoga you’re after then you’re spoilt for choice with&nbsp;<a href="https://barefootbirmingham.com/home-3/look-after-back-2/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Barefoot Yoga</a> and 2025&#8217;s Muddy Award finalist <a href="https://www.yogi-claire.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Yogi Claire</a>.&nbsp;You’re also just a stones throw from 2024&#8217;s Muddy Award-winning&nbsp;<a href="https://www.yogaborne.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Yoga Bourne</a>. There’s a popular&nbsp;local <a href="https://www.kingsheathrunningclub.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">running club</a>. <p>Residents heavily support local which is why most of the businesses here are great indies. There’s plenty of events from wine tastings to music nights. There’s annual festivals from art to street food, comedy and beer.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Go for a walk around <a href="https://www.birmingham.gov.uk/directory_record/9119/highbury_park" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Highbury Park</a>, which stands in the shadow of Highbury Hall, the former residence of politician Joseph Chamberlain. There&#8217;s also <a href="https://www.birmingham.gov.uk/info/20089/parks/1679/kings_heath_park" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kings Heath Park</a> which has a lovely tearoom for coffee and cake. Other outdoor gems include&nbsp;<a href="https://www.birmingham.gov.uk/moseleybog" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Moseley Bog</a>, which was the childhood playground of JRR Tolkien, who lived nearby and inspired the ancient forests in&nbsp;<em>The Hobbit</em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>The Lord of The Rings</em>, while&nbsp;<a href="https://www.birminghammuseums.org.uk/sarehole-mill" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sarehole Mill</a>&nbsp;museum was said to be in the inspiration for The Shire. Within walking distance is the popular&nbsp;<a href="http://www.cannonhillpark.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cannon Hill Park</a>, which has everything from boat hire on the River Rea to tennis courts, train rides, playgrounds, mini golf and the Garden Tea Rooms – there’s even an annual tulip festival.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Kings Heath is a veritable melting pot of culture, with live music venue <a href="https://hareandhoundskingsheath.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Hare &amp; Hounds</a> at its centre. It plays host to some awesome live bands from Idles to Bonobo. The circus is always in town at <a href="https://www.circusmash.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">CircusMash</a> – training classes in circus workshops and community shows. The Midland Arts Centre (aka MAC) in Cannon Hill Park is the local destination for theatre, live music and entertainment, and there’s also a monthly&nbsp;<a href="https://moseleycdt.com/moseley-arts-market/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Arts Market</a> in nearby Moseley to showcase local talent. Otherwise, you’re only a hop, skip and jump from all the theatre, art and more that Birmingham city centre has to offer.</p>
