<p>It might be home to international sporting venues Edgbaston Cricket Club and the historic Edgbaston Priory Club but there&#8217;s more to this part of Brum than its sporting heritage. It&#8217;s also home to some beautiful botanical gardens, multiple top-rated schools, Michelin-starred restaurants aplenty, two universities and is just a stone&#8217;s throw from the city centre.</p>

<p>Starting off strong, Birmingham&#8217;s first ever Michelin star restaurant <a href="https://www.simpsonsrestaurant.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Simpsons</a>, resides here and it&#8217;s held its accolade since 1999. Elegant Georgian hotel <a href="https://baloci.co.uk/">Baloci</a>, which opened in Jan 2024, is Edgbaston&#8217;s second addition to the Michelin Guide for 2025. Inspectors described the Indo-Persian menu at the hotel&#8217;s Silk restaurant as &#8216;an enticing melting pot of influences&#8217;, which include Afghanistan, Iran and Turkey cuisines. It serves a tasting menu alongside a la carte.</p>

For Sunday roasts and classic dishes check out <a href="https://www.highfieldedgbaston.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The High Field</a>. Both have lovely outdoor terraces perfect for sunny days. For meals with a kick, <a href="http://www.thebluepiano.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Blue Piano</a> serving fusion food from Vietnam, Singapore, Cambodia and Malaysia is a top recommendation. For Indian dishes head to <a href="https://praza.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Praza</a>, pub grub is good at <a href="https://www.brunningandprice.co.uk/physician/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Physician</a>, and you&#8217;ll find quality pizzas and wine at <a href="https://www.smokeandashpizza.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Smoke + Ash</a>. Off the beaten track there&#8217;s golf club <a href="https://www.edgbastongc.co.uk/dining_at_edgbaston" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Edgbaston Hall</a>. And if you&#8217;re craving something sweet head to <a href="https://www.la-pop.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">LA-POP</a> – lolly and coffee bar, where you can customise your own gelato lollipop.</p>

Fear not it&#8217;s not all about pimping up your house (though there&#8217;s nothing better, right?) In Edgbaston there&#8217;s also award-winning <a href="https://www.lokiwine.co.uk/edgbaston/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Loki Wine Merchant</a> (the most awarded in the city). <p>The <a href="https://edgbastonwellness.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Edgbaston Wellness Clinic</a> offering private medical, surgical and aesthetic care is right on your doorstep. There&#8217;s also the private <a href="https://www.circlehealthgroup.co.uk/hospitals/the-priory-hospital" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Priory Hospital</a> with cancer, surgery, fertility and heaps of other services. To keep fit there&#8217;s running and wellbeing clubs, or if racket sports are you thing then there&#8217;s a great <a href="https://edgbastonpriory.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">tennis, squash and leisure club</a>. <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-community">COMMUNITY</h2>



<p>The <a href="https://www.birminghamsettlement.org.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Birmingham Settlement Nature &amp; Wellbeing Centre</a> was created three years ago and is home to a community café, learning domes and an amphitheatre to improve the health, happiness and wellness of the local community. It hosts everything from group dog walks to archery and yoga sessions for locals. There&#8217;s also Edgbaston&#8217;s popular monthly <a href="https://edgbastonvillage.co.uk/artisan-market/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">artisan market</a> where you can stock up on local goodies.</p>



<p>One of the city&#8217;s annual highlights is <a href="https://birminghamrestaurantfestival.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Birmingham Restaurant Festival</a>, 1-31 Aug 2026, where top restaurants offer great value menus at a snippet of the usual price. It showcases the diversity of the foodie scene across neighbourhoods, including local eateries Simpsons, Smoke + Ash, The High Field and Chapter.</p>



<p>Another buzzy annual event we love at Muddy is <a href="https://birminghamcocktailweekend.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Birmingham Cocktail Weekend</a>, now in its 11th year, which showcases the best of the city&#8217;s cocktail scene twice a year. This winter&#8217;s edition runs from 23-26 Oct and features a number of Edgbaston joints.</p>

<p>Sporty types are well covered here with <a href="https://edgbaston.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Edgbaston Cricket Club</a> and <a href="https://www.edgbastonpriory.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Edgbaston Priory Club </a>both based in the town and regularly hosting international tournaments in cricket and racquet sports respectively. There are the beautiful <a href="https://www.birminghambotanicalgardens.org.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Botanical Gardens</a> and glasshouses, set in 15 acres and perfect to while away a few hours. We also love <a href="https://www.winterbourne.org.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Winterbourne House &amp; Gardens</a> – a beautiful Edwardian house and gardens &#8211; or community charity and gardens <a href="https://martineau-gardens.org.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Martineau Gardens</a>.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-culture">CULTURE</h2>



<p>Well worth a look is the is the <a href="https://barber.org.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Barber Institute of Fine Arts </a>which is home to some really interesting exhibitions. Pop over to the University of Birmingham and visit <a href="https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/facilities/lapworth-museum/index.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Lapworth Museum of Geology</a> too – it&#8217;s a hidden gem and you can easily while away a few hours exploring – or hear a concert in the <a href="https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/bramall/index.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bramall Music Building</a>. There&#8217;s also the <a href="https://macbirmingham.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Midlands Art Centre</a> with its exhibitions, workshops and performances. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-kept-secret">BEST KEPT SECRET</h2>



<p>Edgbaston is home to the oldest lawn tennis club in the world, founded in 1860 and known as Edgbaston Archery and Lawn Tennis Society. It was founded following a meeting at the Birmingham and Midland Institute and the club moved to its current premises next to the Botanical Gardens in 1867.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute">COMMUTE</h2>



<p>Five Ways is the nearest station with regular trains to Redditch, Bromsgrove and Lichfield, or University, running every 10 mins or so to Grand Central Birmingham – a speedy seven minute journey. Links from there are really good and it will soon also be serviced by high speed line HS2. If you&#8217;re driving, it&#8217;ll take 10 mins from Hagley Road to Birmingham or to the M5. Birmingham airport is 30 mins drive away.</p>
