<p><a href="https://www.cobbsfarmshops.co.uk/cobbs-at-the-farm-stratford">Cobbs at The Farm</a> is brimming with local and seasonal products and a well-stocked eco-refill section. There&#8217;s also a pretty impressive butchery, delicatessen, café (and outdoor café kiosk in a converted shepherd&#8217;s hut) kids play area, cookery school, farm animals and outdoor nursery. A one stop shop? I think so. It&#8217;s come a long way in six years &#8211; the land was a fruit farm until 2017 when it underwent a huge redevelopment into one of the finest farm shops in the county, and that&#8217;s official &#8211; it won the Muddy Award for Best Farm Shop in 2022. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">THE VIBE</h2>

<p>Upmarket country rustic. Walk through the huge glass doors and you&#8217;re greeted by piles of local fruits stacked on the back of an old Piaggio van and pretty green foliage throughout. No doubts, this is a barn, but it&#8217;s warm and inviting with wood panelling and separate sections for the eco shop, bakery, flowers and plants. Items are stacked in market-esque open baskets and on the day I visit they&#8217;ve just had a delivery of plump tomatoes from Newbold-on-Stour. Displays are written on chalkboards and there&#8217;s loads of knowledgeable staff waiting to offer advice (not the kind that jump on you as soon as you pick up a plant pot though &#8211; they understand personal space!) </p>

<p>There&#8217;s wine from local vineyards like Welcombe Hills priced from £17.99 &#8211; not bad for an English tipple created just down the road. There&#8217;s also Shakespeare Distillery and Cobb&#8217;s own gin, and various ales and ciders from local producers. Cakes are on offer from bakers including Stratford institution Cookie Cottage, and in the deli it&#8217;s a similar affair with huge scotch eggs from PantryAnns in Alcester. If it&#8217;s a hot day grab one of the Swirls ice creams handmade on the farm itself. </p>



<p>The butchers is top quality with grass-fed beef and free range lamb, chicken and pork, just the way it should be. We were having a family bbq that night and the butcher helped us pick a cut of meat which worked an absolute treat and was really fairly priced (not the norm at a posh farm shop). There&#8217;s some good deals too like three packs of bbq foods for £12. Of course Mr Muddy wanted to buy a whole joint of beef to throw on the grill though (it was delicious &#8211; I highly recommend). </p>

<p>The café is a decent size and was full the Saturday afternoon I visited. It&#8217;s a mix of friends catching up and larger families with kids. If it&#8217;s a warm day there&#8217;s a sprawling covered outdoor eating area where you can take the dog too. It&#8217;s conveniently just opposite the kid&#8217;s play area so you can keep an eye on your little ones while they blow off some steam. </p>

<p>Good luck coming in here and leaving without grabbing a bite. There&#8217;s Stratford-based Monsoon Estate coffee and a counter groaning with delicious handmade cakes. If you fancy something more substantial there&#8217;s everything from brunches like bubble and squeak benedict to fish finger sandwiches, cheeseburgers, salads and pizzas.</p>

<p>I went for the seasonal homemade quiche of the day &#8211; a cheesy, oozy quiche Lorraine encased in crumbly homemade pastry. It was served with a salad and homemade coleslaw. It really broke up the richness of the quiche &#8211; but I still didn&#8217;t manage to finish it, it was huge! Mr Muddy went with a pepperoni pizza, and I&#8217;ve got to admit I had a bit of food envy. The dough was made in-house and cooked in the pizza oven, and the pepperoni had a perfect hit of spice. The triumph was really the hot Cobbs honey that was drizzled all over the top though &#8211; I don&#8217;t think I can ever eat a pizza without it again (which is why I&#8217;ve stocked up on a jar for my own cupboard!)</p>

<p>We had a side of chicken tenders tossed in a Korean bbq sauce. They were easily one of my favourite parts of the meal. Perfect cooked and crispy with a spicy, rich sauce. They also came as a main so if you&#8217;re tempted then don&#8217;t think twice!</p>



<p>For drinks there&#8217;s freshly squeezed juice, coffees, smoothies, local cider from Napton brewery, G&amp;T&#8217;s made with Cobb&#8217;s gin and milkshakes blended with the gelato made onsite. There&#8217;s a drinks specials board too with seasonal specials like Pimms and I went with a Bloody Mary &#8211; which came with a healthy kick of pepper. </p>

<p>Super kid friendly &#8211; there&#8217;s a play area guaranteed to keep them busy and go for a wander to visit the farmyard animals afterwards. There&#8217;s a kids menu with breakfast and lunch items and a mini Sunday roast too. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">DOG FRIENDLY</h2>



<p>There were plenty of dogs taking their owners for a walk when I visited. Pups are welcome in the covered seating area outside and there&#8217;s a kiosk to order from. The farm shop is also along the Monarch&#8217;s Way walk &#8211; the longest inland trail in England, a 214 mile behemoth from Stratford through the Cotswolds and ending at the Jurassic Coast. Ok, so maybe a bit too far for a Sunday ramble, but you can check out some of this pretty walk with Fido and make a stop at the café on the way. </p>

<p>There&#8217;s disabled bays at the front of the shop and all level throughout so suitable for wheelchair users.</p>

<p>You don&#8217;t have to go far from the farm shop &#8211; there&#8217;s <a href="https://thefarmstratfordshop.com/collections/cookery-school">cookery lessons</a> onsite where you can learn to make everything from ramen to macarons and sushi. If you do want to venture out and you&#8217;ve got the kids with you then head to <a href="https://www.shakespeare.org.uk/visit/mary-ardens-farm/">Mary Arden&#8217;s Farm</a> or there&#8217;s some lovely family-friendly walks at <a href="https://www.comptonverney.org.uk">Compton Verney</a>. There&#8217;s waterspouts and horse riding at <a href="https://www.woottonpark.co.uk">Wootton Park</a> (and you can book in to stop overnight in a glamping pod too) and crafty types should check out <a href="https://themakersspace.co.uk">The Makers Space</a> with various workshops and shopping aplenty.</p>

<p><strong>Good for:</strong> Families, friends, dog owners &#8211; all welcome here to scoff and shop local to your heart&#8217;s delight. </p>



<p><strong>Not for:</strong> If you&#8217;re looking for somewhere for a cosy date this might not be the place (it&#8217;s more a family-friendly vibe) &#8211; but for a chilled lunch spot with your other half before stocking up on supplies this is just the ticket.</p>



<p><strong>The damage: </strong>Food is very fairly priced &#8211; around £12 to £15 for a main and sides from £3.50. The farm shop is reasonable too for local, high quality produce. We grabbed a big chunk of some parmesan for around £3, a huge joint of beef for £50 and a hearty bottle of Puglian red wine for £12 which I&#8217;m already eyeing up another bottle of. </p>
