It’s a match made in heaven – J.W. Anderson’s über-cool designs at Uniqlo prices.
I had a moment of fashion joy last week. I found the perfect pair of trousers – high-waisted, wide-legged, pinstriped, the perfect fit – they make me feel like Lauren Hutton, hurrah! I first spotted them on a v. stylish fashion editor and when I enquired where they were from, she didn’t say Yves Saint Laurent, Margaret Howell, Calvin Klein. No, she told me they were from Uniqlo’s J.W. Anderson range and they were less than fifty quid!
J.W. Anderson, the baby-faced Irish designer with a flair for cool cuts whose collections generally retail north of the £500 mark, has made me sooo happy with his new range for Uniqlo, which he describes as an edit of his fave classic British pieces. And I want to share the joy.
I mean, just look at this trench coat. Burberry, frankly, can eat its heart out – why spend £1,500, when you can get this for only £139.90! It’s reversible too, for those of you who like to rock a bit of a Bay City Rollers look.
And then how about this snuggly duffle, which comes in red, grey and black!?
As well as the to-die-for trousers, there are also some very nattily cut skirts, which are literally head-turning (I saw a girl wearing one and did actually turn and stare at her). This one below was the one that caught my eye and the same cut also comes in denim, black and grey pinstripe. I want them all!
Tops don’t disappoint either. Check out this super-cute blouse (which also comes in white and blue stripe like the skirt, above) and this turtle neck with ties at the cuffs (also in cream, black, and yellow, red, blue and black stripe).
And to finish off the look, college scarves (glad to see those back, used to love mine in the 1980s) and padded backpacks and tote bags, not one of which are over £50.
Don’t worry if you can’t get to London to a store (but if you want to try before you buy, your nearest is probably Westfield in Shepherd’s Bush, a quick whizz up the M40), everything is online, which means you’re only a few clicks away from a whole new stylish wardrobe. Have fun! (Oh yeah, there’s clothes for him too, but, hey, he can get his own.)
