Cool down with an outdoor swim near you &#8211;  whether it&#8217;s a picturesque lake, a full-on feral wild swim, or a lesser-known lido or outdoor pool. Grab your cossie, take the plunge and make the most of the sunshine while it lasts! </p>

<p>This is one of the last remaining open-air, saltwater swimming pools left in the UK and it&#8217;s right here in the West Mids. Not only is a dip in the salt water said to be great for your skin and immune system, but it&#8217;s also a brilliant family day out &#8211; or perfect for a spontaneous dip when the temperatures soar. The 40m pool comes with a sun terrace and a cafe. Prices start at just £7.40 for a swim &#8211; but take our advice and book a couple of days in advance <a href="https://www.riversfitness.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">on their website</a> if you want to guarantee entry, especially during a heatwave like this one!  </p>

<p>Take a plunge in the outdoor pool at the <a href="https://www.virginactive.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Virgin Active gym in Solihull</a>. Yes, you&#8217;ll need membership to go for a swim, but it hits the spot during a heatwave. Not only does it feel like you&#8217;re on holiday, but you could pop in every day if you wanted to and stay for as long as you like. There&#8217;s childcare, children&#8217;s swimming lessons, plus an indoor pool, jacuzzi and sauna. All that&#8217;s missing is a swim-up bar. </p>

You can book it privately (ideal for a low-key group hang, with space for up to six), or dip into one of their small, sociable sessions — think&nbsp;<em>slow Sundays</em>&nbsp;and with numbers capped at just four so it never feels busy. Staying overnight? Even better — guests get access included, which makes the whole experience feel even more indulgent. And if you’re stuck for presents, their vouchers are basically gifting someone a deep exhale. Quietly luxurious and properly restorative, this is the kind of place you leave plotting your return before you’ve even dried off.</p>

<p>Take an ice cold plunge at this lake in the Worcestershire countryside. Watersedge is a full outdoor wellness playground — built around the idea of slowing down, switching off and reconnecting with nature. Founded by sisters, Emily and Sophy, there’s a warm, thoughtful feel to the whole place that goes beyond just the setting. You can keep things simple with a fresh swim or lean into the full experience with hot tubs, cold plunges and their fire and ice therapy — the addictive hot–cold ritual that leaves you feeling equal parts energised and smug. There’s also a rotating mix of aerial yoga, sound baths and breathwork if you’re in the mood to try something new. It’s got a gently social feel — come with friends or arrive solo and settle in — with plenty of space to pause between sessions, whether that’s lakeside lounging, hammock time or a quick reset in the herb garden. </p>

<p>If you know, you know — and if you don’t, this is your heads-up. Tucked away in rewilded Worcestershire countryside, Escape to the Lake is the kind of place that makes you feel instantly smug for having discovered it. There’s a lovely cool spring-fed lake for swimming. No spa rules, no faff — just a great setup and that addictive rhythm you slip into almost instantly. Dip, warm up, repeat, possibly lose track of time. Keep to yourself or fall into conversation — either way works. Slightly under-the-radar and very easy to get obsessed with, this is one you’ll end up recommending (selectively).</p>

<p>If some of the wilder spots feel a bit <em>commitment-heavy</em>, this is a good place to start. Just outside Coventry, The Lakes at Lavender Hall offers the whole wild swimming set-up. There’s open water swimming in the lake and also a sauna right by the water, so you still get that satisfying hot–cold hit — just without quite as much bracing yourself beforehand. It’s all nicely set up and easy to navigate, which makes it ideal if you’re new to the whole thing or bringing someone along who needs a gentle introduction. You can keep it simple or stretch it out to make the most of a warm day, with things like paddleboarding or yoga on offer, plus a lakeside café that makes it very easy to linger longer than planned. Less wild, more easeful, but no less addictive for it, this is one to have up your sleeve when you need to cool down asap.</p>
