Muddy Shops Very Stylish Girl
Spring 2017 saw the launch of Very Stylish Girl, a Leeds-based women’s online fashion brand, and Muddy Stilettos is very impressed.

I’ve always got my eyes open for new fashion labels that really target their audience, so when Very Stylish Girl (a Leeds-based women’s online fashion brand) popped up in my inbox, it immediately caught my eye. Targeting women 30-plus who are looking for contemporary, affordable fashion, I was very interested but then one of the tag lines said ‘appropriate for their age and attitude’….Hmmmmm did this mean I was going to get some staid, catalogue/work suit attire, suitable for us oldies? Nope, I needn’t have worried, I checked out the pieces and my biggest problem wasn’t what could I pick, it was what couldn’t I? Very Stylish Girl offers a carefully curated collection where pieces can easily be styled together and the modern twists to timeless designs allow you to take looks from one season to the next. With the name derived from the iconic Hepburn film and the style inspired by the effortlessly simple French way of dressing, I was sold! And with prices starting from £12 to £86, it wasn’t going to blow the budget too much.
Once my haul arrived, all I needed to do was style it up. Plans were for a capsule holiday wardrobe, but with Turkey temperatures at nearly 40 degrees, I lived mostly in a strappy dress, so styled the pieces up for some UK action!
As seen at the top of the blog in the first picture with the model, I went for a similarly chilled vibe working two pieces of the collection together. The rose pink pleated midi skirt is just £28 and the Breton stripe long sleeve top £24. I’ve worn the skirt with a jumper and a dressy shirt, buttoned up to the top, and the skirt is completely flexible!
The range has a sophisticated occasion wear collection in premium fabrics and elegant silhouettes but also encapsulates a casual, easy to wear style. I loved this stripe boat neck shirt dress (£38), and I’ve teamed it with open toed boots, sandals and trainers and I get complimented every time I wear it.
The denim wide legged crop trousers are gorgeous. Really soft lightweight fabric and at £38, cheaper than most jeans I’d buy.
They’re styled really casually on the site, but I took the glam level up a notch with a canary yellow top, leopard print shoes and my Mum’s vintage clutch bag. They’re the perfect trouser to wear from day to night and you can really dress them up or down!Very Stylish Girl offers an online shopping experience whilst introducing an in-store boutique approach. With their Live Chat feature, you can discuss fashion or product advice with a Style Advisor and, once you have purchased through the user friendly site, your order is wrapped with the touch of care and attention that you’d receive in your favourite high street boutique. It’s a great service and should you be stuck in a rut and need a bit of style inspiration, trends from today and yesteryear can be found on their Style Notes blog and across their social media channels.
Owner, Helen Portas is incredibly passionate about clothes and chatted to Muddy about why she established the brand. “The market is awash with young, inexpensive fast fashion while brands aimed at the older market can be expensive, offering styles which often make us younger or older than our years. As a 40-year-old, my peers and I found it hard to find simple, modern fashion which was appropriate and affordable whilst not compromising on quality. Wanting to bridge the gap, I launched Very Stylish Girl as I believe that women in their 30’s and beyond deserve access to clothing that offers us confidence and style which shouldn’t cost the earth.”
Well Muddy readers, the proof is in the (over-40-year-old) pudding! I’m a Very Stylish Girl convert and will be going back for some Autumn threads!
