Love local? Pop along to this Warwickshire farming family’s Taster Day

Hillers Farm Shop in Alcester is still going strong after 99 years. This Saturday (Sep 28) one of our top picks is their annual Taster Day - there will be loads of gastronomic goodies, artisan food and yummy homemade treats. Dig out your elasticated pants!

Busy this Saturday (Sep 28)? Fourth generation sisters Sally Haines and Emma Taylor Hillers are expecting you!

The dedicated foodies, who this year celebrate their family’s 99th year on the farm, have been busy getting ready for Hillers annual Taster Day, 10.30am – 4.30pm. They’re excited to be showcasing the best local food producers in Warwickshire and the surrounding area – much of which is homegrown and homemade – and you’ll have the opportunity to taste before you buy.

In an ever more challenging market for smaller independent family businesses up against major supermarkets, the sisters feel that giving visitors the opportunity to try delicious local produce and artisan foods from across the county allows them to really be able to taste the difference. As it’s something of an historic year for the Warwickshire farming family they’ve been busy hatching a plan – and throughout 2020 they will be hosting loads of events to celebrate Hillers’ centenary. So, watch this space!

What to expect? The award-winning Hillers’ Farm Shop has an array of fantastic homemade products and many other delicious items that are carefully selected from specialist suppliers sourced locally wherever possible, including free range meats, game, sauces, chutneys, eggs, and yummy sweet treats. Inside there’s a delicatessen, a well-stocked cheese counter and Ragley Estate Meats and Hillers Fish Shop.

While you’re here it would be rude not to treat yourself to a spot of brekkie, lunch or afternoon tea in the attractive Garden Restaurant. There’s the tasteful Gifts & Interiors and Garden Shop too – think outdoor furniture, planters, lighting, decorative accessories, textiles like woollen throws and sculptures. Sally and Emma are passionate about three things: quality fresh, local produce and customer service that’s second to none – so you’ll be most definitely be assured of a warm welcome in a lovely rural location, just outside the vibrant market town of Alcester.
