Peek behind the scenes of the RSC’s Much Ado About Nothing

The RSC's latest production includes costumes by one of Beyonce's designers and music from a guitarist who worked with Amy Winehouse. We take a look.

The RSC’s getting ready for its second production since reopening its doors after lockdown… and we are ready. It’s last offering was brand new musical The Magician’s Elephant which we loved, but now we’re back to some good old fashioned Shakespeare with Much Ado About Nothing.

And we think you’ll agree, if snooping behind the scenes of this shoot by UK-based Nigerian conceptual artist Àsìko (who currently has a solo exhibition in Knightbridge don’t ya know) is anything to go by, it looks epic!

I mean, look at these costumes, which have been designed by London-based couture designer Melissa Simon-Hartman. Her West African and West Indian inspired designs recently featured in Beyonce music videos ‘Mood 4 Eva‘ and ‘My Power’. And if it’s good enough for Queen Bey, it’s good enough for us.

The show is directed by Roy Alexander Weise with an original score by Nigerian-born British guitarist and MOBO award-nominated musician Femi Temowo, who previously collaborated with the likes of Amy Winehouse.

If you fancy heading along to see one of the Bard’s best-loved romantic comedies told with a cosmopolitan twist, it’s running 4 Feb-12 Mar (tickets start from £16).

It’s set in a futuristic world where two very different couples fall in love. There’s dastardly plots, hilarious slapstick and, of course, Shakespeare’s wittiest dialogue throughout the story of matchmaking and manipulation.
