Hot new news in Warwickshire! New gins and delis, festivals and markets - read on to find out the latest gossip in our county.
NEW GIN ALERT!
Award-winning gin makers Warwickshire Gin Company (winner of Best Local Food/ Drink Producer in the 2021 Muddy Awards, no less!) are putting Coventry on the map with their latest tipple Peeping Tom Gin, inspired by the legend of Lady Godiva. Not familiar? Let us fill you in: the myth says she rode naked through the city 900 years ago to force her husband to lower taxes. Peeping Tom was a voyeur struck blind as she rode past. Never actually found out if the taxes were lowered but – back to the gin – this is the fifth offering from the Leamington-based distillery, which names all its products after quirky historic stories surrounding some of Warwickshire towns. From this (very gorgeous bottle) expect notes of star anise, nutmeg, cinnamon and liquorice. Pass the tonic.
WELCOME TO THE (URBAN) JUNGLE
Like indie businesses? Like plants? Us too. So we are jumping with botanical joy that Fargo Village is bringing back its Green Rooms Market on 9 and 10 Oct. The first event was held in spring and saw Fargo turned into a proverbial urban jungle. Stock up on houseplants, pots, plant hangers, terrariums and all things wild, then make sure you go a wander around the other awesome local traders to pick up some quirky items before stopping off for some food (we love Leave it to Esmie).
FANCY A MICHELIN-STARRED CHEF MAKING YOUR LUNCH?
A new indie deli and catering company staffed by former Michelin-starred chefs is launching in Rugby. CVC Kitchen and Deli will open on Regent Street this weekend (Sat 18th Sept). It’s the sister company of Muddy fave, award-winning restaurant and cocktail bar Café Vin Cinq and Bar Twenty-Five. Expect freshly made food and drink made by on-site chefs, including Else-Marie Siebrits-Lenton who previously worked at Michelin-starred restaurants in London. There will be weekly specials, salads and sandwiches if you need a grab and go lunch, heat and home dinners and bespoke high teas and park picnics, oh er.
LOOKING FOR LAUGHS?
Leamington Comedy Festival is back, baby! Or it will be from 2 to 9 Oct at the Royal Spa Centre, but the line-up has now been finalised. Catch big names Mark Watson, Simon Amstell and Mark Thomas on the stage during the packed week, which is always a busy event in the Spa Centre’s calendar. We’re particularly excited about Brummie-born take-no-prisoners comedian Shazia Mirza and her show Coconuts.
